Philly teenager, 16-year-old girl, shot in head

Inquirer staff writer Sam Wood reports: A 16-year-old Philadelphia girl is fighting for her life this morning after being shot in the head shortly before midnight. The teen was riding in a car headed northbound on 56th Street in West Philadelphia when an unknown gunman opened fire on the vehicle near the corner of Addison Street. The girl, who was the front seat passenger, was struck in the right temple, police said. The victim, who has not been named by police, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where doctors rushed her into emergency surgery. Police described the gunman as about 6-foot-1, with a thin build and wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to call Southwest detectives at 215 686-3183.
