Kidnap hoax mom due in court this morning

POSTED: Friday, May 29, 2009, 5:42 AM

Inquirer staff writer Allison Steele reports from Orlando:

Bonnie Sweeten is due in a Florida state court this morning for a hearing on Bucks County's request that she be returned to Pennsylvania to face charges she faked her and her daughter's kidnapping and used a friend's license to buy airline tickets for a flight to Disney World.

Bucks County detectives are in Orlando, ready to return Sweeten, 38, of Feasterville,  to Pennsylvania if she waives extradition.

The charges against Sweeten of false reporting and identity theft are misdemeanors, but officials are investigating more serious allegations that she stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in her capacity as a parlegal and notary.

This story is much like the Runaway Bride. Dumbest trick in the book. The mother withdrew the child from school almost at the end of the school year. Did the mother really think the police weren't going to find out about that? Looks like the motive for the fake abduction was fear of going to jail for embezzlement. Hope they had fun in Disney World curtesy of other people's money.

Here comes the speculation...How about Post-Partum Depression after birthing the 8 month old? The reality is she's a criminal. The other stuff will come out in time but I thought the crime of impersonating someone else to get on a plane got more severe after 911, if not...why not?

How is identity theft just considered a misdemeanor? That is a terrible crime and people that commit that should be severely punished.

Boy certain groups don't age well. I am 10 years older than her and she looks older than my mother. Where are the racists condemning this criminal for her actions?? It's funny, whenever a white person breaks the law, no response, but if a person of color walks down the street the wrong way, we are called every name in the book. Here's a tip, a loser is a loser, is a loser, no matter what color. Even when they look like you.

How about some accountability for your actions?? How about all of the wasted time and resources spent on this clown?!?!?

How much did this cost the police departments to investigate this lie? She should be made to pay for this. And now the stealing! And I don't believe her husband didn't know.
