At Cottman and Frankford Avenues in the Northeast, hundreds and hundreds of people jammed the streets for blocks. The fans were becoming increasinly rowdy throughout the night, and the streets were sticky with beer and bottles and trash. But there was no violence or serious trouble, thanks to a large and visible Philadelphia Police.
A bunch of young guys were shoving eachother very hard at one point, while others were clearly having a good time and savoring the Phillies win. People honked air horns. Officers watched, for the most part, only stepping in when they needed to.
"The cops didn't like the fact that I had beer in my keg, but it's cool, because I'm having th best time of my life," said Tom Burrows, 22, who was dressed as a giant beer keg, with a hat that resembled a keg pump.
Brian Blair, a young man, shirtless, was emblematic of the crowd. He waved his T-shirt wildly over his head. Why? "Because I'm a Phillies fanatic and I'm drunk."
"We're so excited we can't contain our excitement any longer. Yeeeeaaaaahhhhh!" exclaimed another young fan, John Fenninghan.
