Police break things up. (Elizabeth Robertson / Staff Photographer)
At about 12:35 a.m., two school buses full of Philadelphia police in riot gear arrived at Broad and Walnut Streets, organized themselves in formation, and were poised to begin mkaing arrests to control the crowd.

Numerous fans hurled bottles at them.

No rioting had erupted, but the scene was tense.

Celebrate like hell, we deserve it. But keep our officers safe, folks. If you talk to PPD officers, you know they're good people. So celebrate in ways that don't hurt them or others.

Unleash the Taser on these hooligans. If that doesn't do the trick, then work them over with the nightstick. I am ready to celebrate, but act like a thug and you should pay the consequences.

Hey, I'm having my own little celebration here in Northwest Florida. Although I live in Florida now, I am still a die hard Phillies Pfan. If I was in Philly, I'd be on Broad street jumping up amd down and shouting like everyone else. Let them celebrate. As long as they don't break store windows and loot like they did in Detroit, it a jolly good time.
