Inquirer staff writer Sally Downey reports:

Since most voters cast their ballots near their homes, there is no reason to believe the SEPTA strike will have a major affect on todays election in Philadelphia.

But it's still a presence.

For example, at the polling place at St. Andrew's Lithuanian Church, 19th & Wallace in Spring Garden, one poll worker had to leave her post for an hour. Her daughter needed a ride to work.

I'm not so sure -- there's only 24 hours in a day and now a lot of folks in the city are going to spend a couple more of those hours trying to get to and from work. Will they also take the time to make it to the precinct and stand in line to cast their ballots? When do the precincts close, anyway?

Polls are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. I vote in the burbs and it was a ghosttown this morning. I also served as Judge of Election in a city division for many years and this was always a slow election, unless there was a racial undertone (i.e. when Ron Castille ran against a black candidate back in the 80's.) If people don't vote, it's unlikely SEPTA is the culprit. Chances are they didn't vote in 2005, or 2001, or...

Politburo
People who were going to vote today are already committed voters, since there isn't much on the ballot. While there surely will be some people unable to vote due to the strike, I have to agree with the article that it won't be a large effect.
