Councilman Frank Rizzo on Specter party switch

Not surprised. We saw it coming. He's lost a lot of his base. A lot of Republicans he could once depend on aren't there anymore, especially in the primary. He did what he needed to do. I think he probably would have been defeated, and he knew it.

Inquirer staff writer Gail Shister reports, from Councilman Frank Rizzo:

"Not surprised. We saw it coming. He’s lost a lot of his base. A lot of Republicans he could once depend on aren’t there anymore, especially in the primary. He did what he needed to do. I think he probably would have been defeated, and he knew it.
 
"The guy it’s going to hurt is Joe Torsella. As a Democrat, Specter will easily beat him statewide because of his name recognition, plus his seniority in the Senate."
