The Inquirer online news desk reports:

The FBI and Philadelphia police are seeking the public's help in finding the man who tried to rob a Center City bank yesterday and is suspected in a successful stickup around the same time a block away last month.

In the latest incident, the would-be bandit entered the Wachovia Bank branch at 1500 Market St. about 4:20 p.m. and passed a threatening demand note to the teller before fleeing empty handed, the FBI said.

Investigators said the same man is believed to be responsible for the robbery of the PNC Bank branch at 1600 Market St. about 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 5.

The suspect is in his late 20s to early 30s, 5'8" to 5'9" tall, and has a medium build, the FBI said. He has a bald, or clean shaven, head with a long black beard and a thin mustache. The subject was wearing large glasses, a heavy dark-colored wool coat with a hood, and a backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 215-418-4000 or the Philadelphia Police Department. Tipsters can remain anonymous and a reward may be available.
