Inquirer staff writer Kristen Graham reports from the Kearny School:

11:14 a.m.

The President also collected letters from the second graders.

One boy wrote "I heard your voice. I like your voice. I wish I can live with you in the White House. Love Seamus."

The president will take the Kearny Elementary School auditorium stage momentarily. He is expected to speak about the landmark No Child Left Behind Act, which he signed seven years ago today.

12:01 p.m.

In his last policy speech as president, Bush heralded the No Child Left Behind act, signed seven years ago today. Bush also called on legislators to reauthorize and strengthen the law. "now is not the time to water down standards or roll back accountability."

Yes, he signed it but wouldn't fund it. Why doesn't he just go away?

Actually ardenoid, it was OVER-FUNDED!!!! However, I'm assuming you're a liberal---because your response is a typical refrain from people of that particular idealogy.... Nothing is EVER funded enough and problems can be cured just as long as we throw more money at them.....

I plan to stay here and do what I can to support a president who isn't just an underachieving daddy's boy who used the presidency trying to make more money for himself and his friends. One precious aspect of Democracy is being able to speak one's opinion, unlike in China. I am not a feckless complainer, but contribute alot to better America and the world. Part of that is not being a blind follower who waves flags and wants to kick anyone's butt who has a dissenting opinion. You must be happy with the way things have been ruined in this country over the past 8 years. Good for you, but you are in a small minority.

Actually Delaware Vol- take a look at the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals decision: Connecticut vs. Spellings § 7907(a) of the law, did not clearly alert states to their responsibility to pay for the additional costs of compliance not covered by federal dollars provided under the Act, and that, therefore, NCLB violated the Spending Clause's clear statement requirement. So, yes - It violates the spending clause of the federal government and therefore can be interpreted as an unfunded mandate. Interpret it how you like.......

Come on, Del-Vol, OF COURSE money is the cure to problem!! Nevermind strong parents and families, because that doesn't matter. Money will fix it!! (I hope you are sensing my sarcasm!)

lan1122, yeah, it sucks for union members and school administrators who want to avoid being measured and held accountable.

I wonder why these PR tours of the soon to be ex-president don't feature something similar to the dunking booths seen at freak shows and circuses (after all, that's what the past eight years have been like). This man should be ashamed at the damage he has done to this nation. For an accurate rendition of it, just look at a country with no war, in an ecomomy whach had been growing for the middle class, and with a hopeful citizenry. What it is today has no resemblance to that. We're bogged down in two interminable wars; we have an unprecedented recession, soon to become depression, and we're all afraid. And this man bears no responsibility. What a crock!

NCLB sucks because it takes money AWAY from the schools who need the funding! If schools don't perform on PSSA's they don't receive funding from the fed government... does that make sense to you? The idea is a good one, it is just carried out in a backwards way...

A year from now Bush wont be looking so bad. He is a good man and kept us from being attacked since 9/11.

Yes, but the middle class was attacked by our own President, Vice President and Congress.

President Bush has: • Taken, in the wake of the terrorist attacks two years ago, the greatest worldwide outpouring of goodwill the United States has enjoyed at least since World War II and squandered it by insisting on pursuing a foolish go-it-almost-alone invasion of Iraq, thereby transforming almost universal support for the United States into worldwide condemnation. • Misled the American public about weapons of mass destruction and supposed ties to Al Qaeda in Iraq and so into a war that has plainly (and entirely predictably) made us less secure, caused a boom in the recruitment of terrorists, is killing American military personnel needlessly, and is threatening to suck up all our available military forces and be a bottomless pit for the money of American taxpayers for years to come. • Completely miscalculated or failed to plan for the personnel and monetary needs in Iraq after the war, so that he sought and obtained an $87 billion appropriation for Iraq, a sizable chunk of which is going, without competitive bidding to Haliburton, the company formerly headed by his vice president. • Inherited an annual federal budget surplus of $230 billion and transformed it into a $500+ billion deficit in less than three years. This negative turnaround of three-quarters of a trillion dollars is totally without precedent in our history. Presided over the loss of approximately three million American jobs in his first two-and-a-half years in office, the worst record since Herbert Hoover. http://hnn.us/articles/5019.html Yup, great president.
