U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter in the Capitol in February.

Inquirer staff writer Tom Fitzgerald reports:

Arlen Specter is becoming a Democrat today, confirmed by high ranking Democratic sources.

Specter faced a strong primary election challenge from former GOP Congressman Pat Toomey.

Further details were not immediately available; a news conference is planned later today.

UPDATE: Sen. Arlen Specter will switch parties, run as Democrat in 2010.

Does this means that he'll change his vote of the union voting choice bill? If not, the Democrats don't want him either.

Toomey is Santorum lite. Somehow, the 21st century is here and the PA Republican Party is stuck in the middle of the 20th century.
