Inquirer staff report:
Police in South Jersey are investigating the death of a person whose body was exhumed this morning in Millville.
The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office is offering few details at this time except to say that the investigation is “viewed as a suspicious death.”

Nine people were killed and 309 others were injured in Pennsylvania in the more than 700 crashes investigated by the State Police during the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, the agency said today.
State Police Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski said seven of the dead were not wearing seat belts and alcohol was a factor in accidents that resulted in four fatalities.

Chester police are investigating the shooting death of 30-year-old man last night near the intersection of West 7th and Parker Streets.
Officers reponding to a report of a shooting found Joseph Bookman suffering multiple gunshot wounds on the street about 7:35 p.m., Capt. Joseph Massi said. Bookman was pronounced dead at the Crozer Chester Medical Center Trauma Unit.

A fire that apparenlty started in a Dumpster jumped through a window into a community center that serves the disabled in Germantown this morning, badly damaging the facility, officials said.
The blaze at the JEVS Community Collaborative, on the 5500 block of Wayne Avenue, was reported about 3 a.m. and quickly spread through a drop ceiling, said Fire Deputy Chief Tom Garrity.

The Camden High School Panthers, a legend in the city a half century ago and one of the best high school basketball teams in South Jersey history, are slated to be honored at 7 tonight at a dinner-dance sponsored by Camden Women 2001 at Auletto' Caterers, 1849 Cooper Road in Almonesson, N.J.
Inquirer staff report: The former president of Archbishop Ryan High School is to be sentenced today for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the school and his order of Franciscan friars, using some of the money to pay off a 1996 graduate he had allegedly sexually molested.

A man who drowned in Gloucester County’s Woodbury Creek last night was identified today as James E. Simcox, 32, of Washington Township.
His body was recovered about 10:35 p.m., about 2 ½ hours after he was reported missing from the Cattails Bar on Riverview Avenue in National Park.

ATLANTIC CITY — A 79-year-old South Jeresy woman and Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City have settled a lawsuit accusing the casino of cheating her out of an $86,000 slots jackpot two years ago.
Angela Domino of Egg Harbor Township sued when the casino told her she had won just over $20,000 instead of the bigger amount her slot machine flashed on its meter.

A second computer technician who worked for ex-State Sen. Vincent Fumo will be sentenced today for obstructing the FBI investigation of the once powerful Philadelphia Democrat.
Federal prosecutors, however, have said they will not oppose probation for Mark Eister because he showed remorse after pleading guilty and testified against Fumo, who was convicted of corruption in March.
