Laughton sent back to junior
The Flyers sent 19-year-old rookie Scott Laughton back to his junior team for more seasoning.
Scott Laughton's stay in the NHL was rather brief this time.
After sitting out Wednesday's home opener against Toronto as a healthy scratch, the Flyers' brass decided it would be best for Laughton to play more minutes rather than practice against pros. Laughton, 19, was sent back to his junior team, the OHL's Oshawa Generals.
It has to be considered a little bit of a step back for Laughton, who didn't knock anyone's socks off in training camp. Laughton played five NHL games last season.
As Paul Holmgren and Peter Laviolette noted many times, Laughton was on an equal playing field this year - since he was coming into camp against NHL players training on a regular summer, not coming out of a lockout in January when he had already been playing since September.
His team in Oshawa is not expected to be as good this season, since they will be without Boone Jenner.
Laughton could not be sent to the AHL, since he is not in his 20-year-old season. His three-year, entry-level contract remains untouched and will begin whenever Laughton makes the jump to the NHL.
In his place, the Flyers recalled forward Kris Newbury from Adirondack to be the team's 13th forward.
