Hartnell's hat trick not enough
One bone-rattling hit.
Two bitter rivals.
Three fights.
Four lead changes.
Five goals for the Flyers. One less than the Bruins.
Despite two soft goals in which the Flyers blew yet another lead, the Flyers overcame a 5-4 deficit in the final frame thanks to Max Talbot’s redirection with less than 10 minutes to play before falling, 6-5, in a shootout in one of the most entertaining games of the NHL season.
The Bruins are now 24-0-0 when leading by two or more goals in a game.
It was Scott Hartnell, though, who did his best to put a dent in that record. Hartnell scored three consecutive goals - all in the second period, to tie a team record for the most in one period of play - to record the Flyers’ first natural hat trick since Jeff Carter did it on Nov. 11, 2010. Hartnell singlehandedly took the Flyers from down 3-1 to leading 4-3 in a span of 16 minutes.
Hundreds of hats littered the ice at the Wells Fargo Center, as the 19,851 applauded Hartnell's incredible weekend with 5 goals in back-to-back games. Claude Giroux had the primary assist on all 3 of Hartnell's goals.
Sunday’s insanity started in the first 10 seconds, when Boston’s Chris Kelly was sprung on a breakaway off the opening draw.
Patrice Bergeron scored 40 seconds later on the next shift, as the Bruins - who are now 27-6-2 since Nov. 1 - implanted images of their last visit to Philadelphia, a 6-0 drubbing on Dec. 17, in the Flyers’ heads.
Then, Tom Sestito and Milan Lucic dropped the gloves to set the tone for what would be a Bloody Sunday. Brayden Schenn followed that by railroading Bruins defenseman Steven Kampfer just 9:37 into the game, when he caught Kampfer rushing the puck up the ice with his head down.
Schenn answered for his clean hit - with his hands and elbows down, and his skates grounded on the ice - by squaring off with Kelly near the benches.
Kampfer never returned to the ice, playing just 2:45 before leaving with an apparent concussion.
Before Schenn’s monstrous, Talbot importantly answered on the scoresheet for the Flyers just 41 seconds after Sestito’s fight. Unlike Dec. 17, the Flyers weren't going down without a fight.
Somehow, despite spending 4:24 of the first 9:01 of the first period down at least one man, the Flyers escaped the initial frame trailing just 2-1. And that’s when Hartnell took over.
Overall, the Flyers and Bruins combined for 68 minutes in penalties and countless blood lost. Old Time Hockey on a Sunday afternoon.

What kind of article is this? It is half done. Nothing about the third period or OT?
What is this: "Before Schenn’s monstrous, Talbot importantly answered on the scoresheet for the Flyers just 41 seconds after Sestito’s fight. Unlike Dec. 17, the Flyers weren't going down without a fight."?
Is there an editor there anymore?
You mail in a half completed article just to get people to read and comment and get hits for the advertisement. What a joke. VanFlyer
Thank u Scott Hartnell -u are really stepping up. Honorable mention to Schenn, Sestito and Talbot. Thanks boys-despite the loss -this was kick a Flyers hockey. also unfortunately Flyers hockey was the sub par goaltending ugh. Homer- get us a crease clearing d-man debbyt
I like Sestito in the lineup....he brings a lot of size and keeps the other team honest out there....this was one of the first games in a while against Boston where I did not feel that the Flyers were pushed around...keep him in the lineup kadhia
Bryz is horrible. Plain and simple. Wasted effort!!!!!!! Phillyfan666
Shelly can't even fight?! OMG! Please give us Philly fans so hope! AHHHHH!!!!!! Phillyfan666
This comment has been deleted. Phillyfan666- I agree although I don't think hell exists. But ya, he willingly ignored a situation that more kids would be assaulted because the integrity of the program was more important.

Maybe the pressure on Bryz is too much. Start playing Bob and let Bryz either work his back to the number one job or he stays a backup. neddyflanders- Nice vid of Brayden Schenn hit: http://network.yardbarker.com/nhl/article_external/video_brayden_schenn_delivers_a_huge_hit/9516893
The only surprize in this game was that it took Boston almost 45 minutes to score their 5th goal against "soft Bryz". I think it took them 25mins last time. Of course none of the goals were his fault though. Excuse #1. No Pronger on defense. #2. Defelctions. #3. Screen shots. You guys know all the rest already just as well as I do. It finally sounds as if you guys (and gals) are just as pissed off as me also. Bryz is totally worthless!! Im tired reading about all the excuses his apoligists print after every shelling. Lavy doesnt like using the terms #1 & #2 goalie. Maybe one of these writers who actually speak to coach Lavy every week should ask him about the number 36. Because that is how many goaltenders in the NHL are better then " soft brzy", which includes every single starting goalie and every backup goalie that has played the minimum amount of games to be ranked. When fans have zero confidence in Bryz doesnt it make you wonder just how much ( or should I say little) confindence his teamates have in him. I like to believe that Bryz would be in the AHL already if not for his foolish No Movement Clause to go along with his even dumber contract. The fact that Bobrovsky is so much better in every possible way and yet sits on the bench makes me wonder, WHY!!!. Im simply tired of having soft bryz shoved down my throat!! How many times during a game do you say to yourself " WTF, I could have saved that shot, my sister could have saved that shot, ect)." The fact Bobs hasnt already been made the number 1 goalie (sorry Lavy) makes me believe he simply never well be. We are stuck with Bryz and a 5th rnd playoff seeding and a 1st exit. Why, I dont know. For reasons they are not telling us Bryz well remain the top goalie regardless. To add insult to injury all the Flyers reporters well talk about is how different things could have been if not for #1. Pronger, #2. Deflections. Ect ect. coreym1945
..... I'm trying hard to swallow after this galling loss. The Bruins did their part to help the Flyers with penalties. Short Jagr, even JVR the second rate second choice in 2007 can help, but when you see Bryzgalov, know you have to score seven goals, as Mr. Softie and his conehead are worse than a sieve.Bryz, didn't want to talk to reporters, so, can we ignore him? Lavvy shouldn't turn into Charlie Manuel and play older favorites. The kids have the grit. START "BOB" until he proves unready or Bryz comes around. PhillyboyinNYC
