Pronger moved to IR

With Danny Briere and Matt Read sitting out practice on Tuesday – and his team set to take on Buffalo on Wednesday night – the Flyers made a few pre-emptive roster moves to carry extra forwards.

Harry Zolnierczyk and Ben Holmstrom were re-called from Adirondack on Tuesday and skated with the team before departing for Western New York.

This is Holmstrom’s first re-call of the season. Zolnierczyk has now been up and down twice, having scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 18 in Ottawa.

Defenseman Matt Walker was not on the ice on Tuesday, and it appears – with the salary cap restraints – that he may have finally be sent back to Adirondack. Erik Gustafsson was in the lineup in Walker’s place in each of the last two games.

Now, with 24 players on the roster, the Flyers moved Chris Pronger to the injured reserve list retroactive to last Monday's injury. Pronger to the IR means that the Flyers gain a roster space to replace him but not salary cap space.

Pronger would not need to go to long-term injured reserve - causing him to miss 10 games or 25 days - with Walker is demoted, since they do not currently need the cap space for Pronger's salary.

Pronger is eligible to come off the injured reserve list at any time.
