ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Zac Rinaldo is close to returning to the Flyers' lineup.

Rinaldo skated in his third full practice of the last week on Wednesday and joined the Flyers on their flight to California.

To make room for Rinaldo on the 23-man roster, the Flyers waived forward Chris VandeVelde.

VandeVelde and Michael Raffl are the only players on the Flyers' roster on two-way contracts. VandeVelde lasted long enough with the Flyers to require waivers to be sent back down to AHL Adirondack.

Now, after being left as a free agent this summer without a home, all 29 others teams will have a crack at VandeVelde before noon on Thursday. If he goes unclaimed, VandeVelde will report to the Phantoms.
