Why Matt Carle? Was the brass watching a different player?! No passing, constantly beaten off the puck, brings nothing! And with 14 million in cap space, why not go after a stellar defenseman?! This is ridiculous.

You clearly do not watch hockey, or you know literally nothing about it. For the money (and even setting money aside) Matt Carle is a better all-around defenseman than Suter. He hits more, blocks more shots, and is a WAY better skater and offensive threat. Pair Carle with Grossmann or Schenn (or any other big crease-clearing shutdown guy) and that pair would be top-4 on ANY team in the league. Period.

I hope Carle decides to stay in spite of you dopes who hate him even though he's CLEARLY one of the best, most underrated offensive dmen in the league. He's a steal at $5 mil per.

He's a steal for $3 million, anything higher and the Flyers should go after someone else. Carle is decent offensively, but is pretty weak on the puck and in the corners.

what matt carle have you been watching? He is a turnover machine and i would be willing to bet that 90% of his turnovers end up in the back of his own net. you think he is better than Suter? i along with probably anybody else who has really watched Matt carle play would have to disagree

Why does the Frequent Flyers title banner still have a picture of Carter on it?

If this is true and we are looking at Parise, I wonder who will be the next forward to Fly away? We need to focus on Defense, Bryz needs help.

Can't stand Carle - good skating D-man (& I realize they don't grow on trees) but I just dont trust him in his own end defensively. Give me any of these 3 instead - Ryan Suter, Michal Rozsival or Carlo Colaiacovo.

Matt Carle hits more and blocks more shots than Suter, is a better skater, more of an o-threat, and a WAY better skater. Carle is a better choice, especially if paired with a larger shutdown guy (Grossman, Coburn, maybe Schenn). HE will also be $2 mil cheaper per year. Let somebody else overpay for Suter, hopefully a division rival. It doesn't matter where Suter lands, he will NEVER live up to the contract he's about to get. So let it be somewhere else.

I won't even address the other two you mentioned, except to say that compered to Matt Carle, they are pylons. Also, with Kimmo set to retire in a year or two, it's even more crucial to keep Carle. Dmen like him do NOT grow on trees.

Gustaffson makes Carle look like a Hall of Famer....

Gustaffson actually makes me scared when he gets hit against the back boards. I thought he would become a logo for Modelles a couple of times last year when he was totally smashed flat by big Ranger wingers. Gustaffson needs to have an ambulance waiting in the Zamboni pit just in case, if you know what I mean.

You're kidding me. D-men don't grow on trees, they are supposed to move the trees from in front of the net. I challenge you to find a highlight of carle hitting someone or moving someone from in front. You said it yourself, "if paired with a larger shutdown guy." Then what is Carle supposed to be then, a forward? His purpose is to defend, not skate around and turn the puck over. He is Luke Richardson with much less grit. Yes, he can skate, so can every other player in the NHL. Why is it that when the top d-men in the league are mentioned matt carle's name is NEVER heard. The league knows, he is not a defensenmen. We don't need him skating around hitting players with his purse, we need him to get people out of Bryz's way. Bryz needs all the help he can get. If they sign carle, this will be another deal Homer is looking to trade well before it is up. Book it.

I challenge you to find a highlight of Carle hitting someone:

the only way Carle would ever hit someone is if he hit Jody Shelly in the parking lot with his BMW.

I don't know what kind of designer drug you are doing Americnatitis, but you are hallucinating when it comes to Carle. The only thing Matt Carle hit last year was the ATM.
