This isn't about a 100 point season, it's about the post season. Homer learned in 2010 when the Flyers qualified on the last day of the season and advanced to the finals. Just get in, anything can happen. Paul brought in Simmonds and Talbot because of the way Boston manhandled Philly last year; then he brought in Jarg for his size and to fix the power play and Bryz for superior talent in net. Homer will evaluate how the lines play in the first half of the season, then do some adjusting for another playoff move at the trade deadline.

They are built to be....different. Apparently that's sufficient for management and many fans.

They put a decent, competetive team together every year that is fun to watch... and that is all I ask for. If they win the Cup my life remains unchanged. It is about the journey for me. The 6-9 hour weekly break from real life through which I gain my enjoyment from their games. Only for sorry saps like LOSERS does the outcome of a season for a sports team they are not a member of have that much importance in his/her life. It is all relative I guess... when my real life is so pathetic that I can only gain joy from the exploits or failures of others it will probably be time to move along.

A team is something you have to build. I can't expect a team so dramatically overhauled in one offseason to be championship contenders. Championships usually come to a core group that has been playing together for at least 3 years, not this mishmash of spare parts and inexperienced "potential".

Come on, man. Giroux, Briere and JVR can't drive a championship offense? The Flyers' defense isn't among the best in the league? Bryz isn't an elite goalie? Lavi hasn't already coached one time to the Cup?

This team will stuggle to score goals. If Pronger or Timonen goes down, the defense will become average again. I do not see this team going far this season...Jagr will have a good year, but will not nearly be enough. I hope we are not discussing possible JVR trades come January...I don't expect much this season

Spazcat you really hit it. I agree with much of what you posted except that my life will be changed if this team wins the cup. I WILL go out and buy all of the clothing and paraphernalia that I have denied myself for many years. The stuff that reads, "Stanley Cup Champion Flyers" on the front.

Seravalli you are getting chubby. Get a pair of skates and lace em up for a public session or two. Then maybe a visit to Hockey 1 for a ten week intro to playing the game. You'll be in better shape and have a better appreciation for what it takes to NOT SUCK at hockey.

Spazcat may have the correct attitude but is in the minority. I believe I am like many who would seriously consider losing a finger if it meant experiencing a Cup in my lifetime. That said, I think southpaw's prediction is about right.
