Trade tidbits in LA

POSTED: Thursday, June 24, 2010, 4:20 PM

LOS ANGELES - With the NHL's Entry Draft set to begin tomorrow night with Round 1 here at the Staples Center, we have a few quick news hits for you today:

* Former Flyers head coach John Stevens, who was relieved of his duties on Dec. 4, 2009 to make way for Peter Laviolette, has officially landed as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings, the Los Angeles Times reported. Kings general manager Dean Lombardi needed to first ask the Flyers for permission, since Stevens had a contract that ran through the 2011-12 season. He will be on the bench with another former Flyers head coach, Terry Murray, who guided the Kings to the playoffs last year.

* Also, former Flyers head coach Craig Ramsay - who was the Flyers top dog in 2000-01 - was hired to be the next Atlanta Thrashers head coach. Ramsay, 59, spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with Boston. This is his second NHL head coaching gig.

* At the NHL Awards last night at the Palms Resort and Casino, Henrik Sedin captured the Hart Trophy as league MVP. Duncan Keith nabbed the Norris Trophy for best defenseman. Chris Pronger finished 5th in voting, behind Mike Green, Drew Doughty and Niklas Lidstrom. He garnered just two first place votes, with one coming from myself. Mike Richards finished seventh in Selke Trophy voting for best defensive forward after being a finalist last year. Lastly, James van Riemsdyk picked up three fifth place votes for the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year.

lawrence...do you smoke crack? He was one of the leading goal scorers for they flyers this year, and was playing coming off of two broken feet in the playoffs. No sacrifice? If you can't stand the team, that's your decision. But try and at least make sense when you post. Cause now you just look like an idiot

I always forget that Chris Simon also went in the Lindros deal. Hexy and Forsberg trump my memory of that steal for Quebec/Colorado.

Nice to see Rahm Emanuel/eldiablodelsol2009 posting here about hockey as the Gulf is bleeding. Nice crisis management as usual with that cutting-edge trade analysis, Rahm. Anywho -- Homer's gonna do something creative, the L.A. front office connection will most likely pay off here soon.

These trades have been less successful than the Bush Administration, which I thought was impossible. When you have to go back to Ross Lonsberry for Behn Wilson to see a worthwhile trade, perhaps it is time to stop draft day trades.
