Reports: No suspension -- or hearing -- for Richards

The hit that Flyers captain Mike Richards delivered on the Sabres' Tim Connolly in Sunday's Game 6 will not warrant a suspension, or even an NHL disciplinary hearing, according to reports from Craig Custance of the Sporting News and Nick Kypreos of Rogers SportsNet.

The Flyers likely would have heard about a hearing last night if it were scheduled for today.

Connolly was rammed into the boards headfirst from behind by Richards with a little over 6 minutes left in the second period.

Connolly, who has a concussion history, was helped from the ice and did not return. Richards was given a 2-minute boarding minor, which put the Flyers down two players for 1 minute, 10 seconds, and down a man for the other 50 seconds.

Richards more or less shrugged off the news at the Flyers' media availability on Monday afternoon in Voorhees, N.J.

"Obviously it's good to play, there's no doubt about that," Richard said. "I'm not worried about that, I'm worried about helping the team out and getting one by their goaltender [Tuesday]."

The guy Richards plans to 'get one by' on Tuesday night in Game 7 voiced his displeasure of the hit on Monday back in Buffalo as the Sabres prepared to fly to Philadelphia.

"I'm still upset," Sabres goalie Ryan Miller told the Olean Times Herald on Monday in Buffalo. "The guy who was complaining the most about how we were getting away with murder has delivered two of the dirtiest hits in the series – a blatant elbow to the face, which is something the league has said they're trying to take away, and driving Tim Connolly head-first into the boards. It's wasn't a just a hit; it was a push. It was blatant. It's not lost on me that he's a hard competitor. Richards wants to win. But obviously that was reckless."
