NHL admits blown call
PITTSBURGH -- On Thursday, NHL senior vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell acknowledged that linesman Tony Sericolo erred in Danny Briere’s offside call. Briere was circling out of the zone and entered before the puck, ultimately scoring the Flyers’ first goal of the game on a partial breakway. The play was not blown dead.
Sericolo is a veteran of over 800 NHL games since 1998.
“There’s no other way to explain it but a missed call,” Campbell told the Canadian Press. “We’re as upset as Pittsburgh almost. It’s a mistake.”
The goal began the Flyers’ furious comeback. Peter Laviolette said he did not see the film. The Flyers believe it’s all even, as a botched icing call led to one of Pittsburgh’s first period tallies.
“That’s not why we lost the game,” Penguin coach Dan Bylsma said of the offside ruling.
“It affected the game,” Sidney Crosby said. “But at the end of the day, worrying about it or thinking about it is not going to change anything. It’s over.”

What about the BLOWN ICING CALL? Why doesn't anyone talk about that? It always has to be about those whining babies in Pit. ChrisM

Is anyone surprised that a top NHL official yet again sides with the Pengoons? Pelti
I know I'm repeating what others have said here, but if the game is over, what's the point of Campbell commenting on this call - especially in the playoffs. If the game's over - it's over. Commenting on it publicly only serves to send calls in favor of the Pens - more so than they already got. No icing call that clearly led to a goal? What about boarding on Giroux with no unsportsmanlike on Staal (??) when he acted hurt and then got up and skated away. Tortorella was so right. God help us if Crosby gets dinged and has to leave the game. We might as well defend a power play for the rest of the series.
SMitchell- You want to know why everyone in the pens camp as well as the league is commenting on this game, particularly this play? Because they are scared. They are scared a team that was effectively blown up in the off season packed with 7 or so untested rookies just embarrassed an elite hockey giant. They're scared their poster child may actually be knocked out in the first round. They are scared because they dodged us 2 years in a row and now have to face us head on...they are scared because a team they wrote off ( despite what they say on camera) as an easy series win just chucked a huge rock at their forehead delivering a shocking blow to their confidence in their building on their ice.
of course sid has to get his little whine in before he fakes taking the high road kenny.328.usa
@lynch, Crosby doesn't suck. I hate him too, but because we both know it is because he is a great player not on our team. P Even- I thought Pronger sucked, too....before we got him :-)
Crosby is an elite player, no doubt. lynchburg25
Anyone notice that Sydney wasn't quoted until Thursday? That's because he left the locker room without talking to the press on wednesday. And he's supposed to be their leader? No wonder they cough up leads left and right. Flyers in 6 mikeyhigs
"They’ll whine about something else, won’t they, starting with their two [expletive] stars." boom dynamite
You know the Pens brought this to the leagues attention. Whinner crybaby Crosby has to get his way. Watch out for "make-up" calls tomorrow night against the Flyboys. I hope they send them down the road talking to themselves; especially cryboy. dogman5
Why didn't anyone ask Campbell about all the missed diving calls???? nascarpweb
That's okay...the refs blew it on the icing call that led to Pitt's 3rd goal, and their 2nd one was real close to an offsides also. Oh, well........ mrjarn
Comment removed.
Campbell is Bobby Orr's friend and is still in pay-back mode for the Bill Barber hit,.....best way around it is to go right at them and score a goal or even two within 10 minutes and the series is over at that point SyddBarrett
