NHL admits blown call

PITTSBURGH -- On Thursday, NHL senior vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell acknowledged that linesman Tony Sericolo erred in Danny Briere's offside call. Briere was circling out of the zone and entered before the puck, ultimately scoring the Flyers' first goal of the game on a partial breakway. The play was not blown dead.

Sericolo is a veteran of over 800 NHL games since 1998.

"There's no other way to explain it but a missed call," Campbell told the Canadian Press. "We're as upset as Pittsburgh almost. It's a mistake."

The goal began the Flyers' furious comeback. Peter Laviolette said he did not see the film. The Flyers believe it's all even, as a botched icing call led to one of Pittsburgh's first period tallies.

"That's not why we lost the game," Penguin coach Dan Bylsma said of the offside ruling.

"It affected the game," Sidney Crosby said. "But at the end of the day, worrying about it or thinking about it is not going to change anything. It's over."
