Andrej Meszaros out indefinitely

Andrej Meszaros can't avoid the injury bug.

The Flyers announced on Wednesday that Meszaros will be out indefinitely after re-injuring his left shoulder against the Rangers Tuesday when he was smashed into the boards. His season is likely finished.

Meszaros, 27, missed from Jan. 24 to March 9 with a very similar (if not the same) injury. He returned on March 9 and played 7 games before re-injuring himself late in the third period on Tuesday. He writhed on the bench in pain.

Meszaros did not have surgery the first time around. He had surgery on that shoulder already in 2009.

At this point, it's fair to wonder whether Meszaros' body will ever be healthy enough again to withstand the rigors of the NHL game. Meszaros, who once owned a 298-game ironman streak to start his career, has been stuck in the infirmary.

Meszaors had back surgery last March, returned for one playoff game, tore his Achilles in the summer in Slovakia, returned to start the season, played 4 games and hurt his shoulder, played 7 games and hurt it again.

He played 81 games for the Flyers in his Barry Ashbee Trophy-winning season in 2009-10, his first with the team, but has strung together 72 games over the past two seasons.

Paul Holmgren offered no new news on the Flyers' two other injured players: Danny Briere (concussion) is out indefinitely and Nick Grossmann (upper-body) remains day-to-day.

If Grossmann cannot play on Thursday against the Islanders, call-up Erik Gustafsson will be in the lineup.
