Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton was named the NHL’s second star among their ‘Three Stars’ for the week ending Feb. 14.

Leighton posted a 4-0-0 record and carried the Flyers to home-and-home sweeps against New Jersey and Montreal last week. He had a 1.98 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in those four games, stopping 98 shots in all.

Leighton has a 12-3-1 record for the Flyers since being claimed off waivers from Carolina on Dec. 17.

Coincidentally, Dallas goaltender Marty Turco – who has been connected to the Flyers in recent trade rumors – was named the NHL’s third star. Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos grabbed first star honors.

Chris Pronger (3rd star, week of Nov. 9) is the only other Flyer to be named one of the NHL’s Three Stars of the week this season. James van Riemsdyk was the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for December.

And there is a question who the starting goalie for this team should be? Give me a break. Go with Leighton.

We need a chant here.... Miiiiiii chael....lets get behind this guy and give him some support. This is a BIG goalie who was EXCELLENT in the minors and just needs confidence. People don't understand the jump from AHL to NHL is a big jump. Goalies traditionally blossom late.

Leighton has been simply awesome since he came to Philly... keep this guy in net until he shows he is unable to carry the load. Sorry, Ray, but Leighton has let up very, very few soft goals. Unfortunately, he will parlay this season into a bigger contract and be gone shortly, and the Flyers' 20 year search for a gamebreaking goalie who starts for at least 5 years here will continue.

Why the Flyers would even bother signing Emery again is beyond me. Guy gets sent OUT OF THE NHL basically due to his discipline on and off the ice (that's pretty serious), then comes back plays ok--not better than Leighton-- and has nothing but injury issues. No reason whatsoever to give him another shot in Philly. We're not a developing team that can take a chance like that, this is their time and they need to put the Emery nonsense behind them.

Don't really care who the Flyers play in goal. Go with the hottest one til he cools off, then go with the next one. They can bring in another one if they want, the more the merrier. 3,4,5 goaltenders in the system - one is bound to be hot going into the playoffs

Emery looked very good when healthy. But, thank goodness for Leighton. Keep them both.

I think Leighton's been great. He's a humble guy and he's performing. Emery may be the better goalie of the two, but until he can show up and be healthy for a longer period of time, Leighton is the obvious choice. NHL is all about stats (right?) and if you look at the stats, Leighton's been nothing less than amazing for the Flyers so far. I'm impressed and happy for both him and the Flyers.

I like what FFan88 pointed out about the 8 game layoff for Leighton. I think he realizes that he may never get this opportunity again and he is playing up to his potential as a result. He doesn't have to stand on his head, as long as he continues to show consistency this team will get behind and play great in front of him. This could be one of those happy ending stories. Lets Go Flyers!

Were would the guis be without Leighton ? He has kept the Flyers season alive. There is no doubt that he has EARNED the right to finish this season. Hopefully with Lord Stanley's cup held high !
