Lavy named coach of Predators

Former Flyers coach Peter Laviolette has been hired by the Nashville Predators, becoming their second coach in franchise history.

Laviolette coached the Flyers from 2009 until this season, when he was fired just three games into the season. He coached the Flyers to the 2010 Stanley Cup finals. He won a Cup with Carolina in 2006.

“Having reached the peak as a Stanley Cup Champion, Peter knows the intensity and urgency it will take to help our team reach its ultimate goal,” Preds general manager David Poile said. “He is a great hockey mind who not only has a winningresume, but has done it with an aggressive offensive philosophy while also excelling in helping young players reach their potential."
