Laperriere expected to miss season
Flyers forward Ian Laperriere is expected to miss the entire season and his career could be in jeopardy, the Daily News has learned.
Technically, Laperriere has been placed on the short-term injury list with post-concussion syndrome, but doctors are trying to determine whether his symptoms are from concussions or from the eye injury that he suffered in the first round against the Devils last year.
Because Laperriere is older than 35, his status has salary cap implications for the Flyers that the team is still evaluating.
Andreas Nodl was sent down to the AHL Adirondack Phantoms, but the move was procedural. He will be recalled in time for tomorrow's season opener at Pittsburgh and traveled with the Flyers.
- The Flyers are going to miss his hustle and team first attitude. Hope he heals completely and returns soon!
- usually I ignore the trolls, you know who you are, but this is to far. Lappy is a class guy who is seriously injured. It has less to do with hockey, sports or the Flyers than a serious injury to an awesome guy. Shame on you big tom and the rest of your messed up alter egos Inchon
- @Flyers_70: Well said.
- Team looking weaker by the day.
- Time to retire. What a shame. I really liked him. But it is what it is, and it isn't good. icarus
Good luck, #14. Would love to see you come back but life is hopefully a little longer than a hockey player's career. Hopefully he will do what is proper for his health and life maintenance. I was at the game early last year when he got pucked the first time, and it was not pretty. RichieLemon- Hopefully he does the REAL tough thing and leaves the game he loves for the people he loves before it's too late. Lappy, we loved you here, but we fans and a game aren't worth your mental faculties and quality of your remaining 40-50 years. Sometimes being really tough means knowing when to walk away for your family and your health.
They will miss his heart! I will miss his heart. Retire and make grandbabies. LaCroix,Nolet,Gendron
it sucks to see him out but at the same time im angry at him for not taking head injuries seriously and hiding things during the playoffs, its really sad that its come to this, i know he put the team first but this is his life were talking about, you cant take that lightly RoadRaider12
I am so sorry to hear that about Lappy. That guy is a warrior. I wish he would have joined Flyers 5 years earlier. BobbyD- mjc1, there are many reasons why I don't think these guys should be wearing cages, but outside of that, a cage wouldn't have kept him from having head trauma. Sure, it would have kept him from requiring the stitches, but a point blank slap shot to the head would have caused a concussion either way.
Another lug who can't shoot or skate. Who cares? YodelInTheVlly
Man, that sucks. God bless you and hope you have a full recovery Lappy. flyerdup
