LAS VEGAS -- With the Stanley Cup gleaming in the lobby of The Las Vegas Palms Casino and Resort, likely still soaked with beer and champagne from Boston’s thrilling Game 7 victory last week, Flyers chairman Ed Snider and forward Ian Laperriere could do little more than ogle as they entered the Pearl auditorium.

LAS VEGAS -- With the Stanley Cup gleaming in the lobby of The Las Vegas Palms Casino and Resort, likely still soaked with beer and champagne from Boston’s thrilling Game 7 victory last week, Flyers chairman Ed Snider and forward Ian Laperriere could do little more than ogle as they entered the Pearl auditorium.
Those dreams will have to wait until next summer.
But the Flyers’ organization did not walk away from Las Vegas empty-handed.
Their 11-year drought of not winning a major award is over.
Laperriere, 37, captured the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy on Wednesday night, handed out to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to the game.
The award is voted on by member’s of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. All 30 teams submit one nominee and the vote was whittled down to three finalists, all of which have worn the Flyers’ colors: Laperriere, Ray Emery and Daymond Langkow.
It was the Flyers’ first award since Bill Barber won the Jack Adams Trophy as coach of the year in 2001.
The award was presented by former Los Angeles Kings star, and Laperriere teammate, Luc Robitaille.
Two former Flyers, Bobby Clarke in 1972 and Tim Kerr in 1989, have previously won the Masterton Trophy.

Of course, there are a few exceptions on the rooster. Ian Lapperriere's presence in this line up is definitely missing.
Anyone who takes a puck in the face,lies about the state of his
concussion or his health to get back to the playoffs(2010)is a true
warrior.His grit,the fights(at the right time)the work on the penalty
kill,I have a gut feeling he was solid in that room...
When the Flyers came unglued late in the season,Lapperriere was one
of the glue guy missing in my humble opinion.Very happy he got some
recognition tonight,couldn't HAVE happen to a better person.— mean mean pride,mean mean pride. - Laperriere gave everything and `left nothing out there' except for blood and teeth. He was an awesome player on the kill, and shows in the way he played that he was a team player. Lappy, good for you man. You deserve this award.— gofwyers

What a great guy and team player. Lappy is old school... and that's not to common in todays NHL.

- Indeed I did. And believe me, I do not fancy myself a better person than jeffritoe. However, the written word is suffering here. As a corporate employer, I would reject a resume with misspellings of this nature based on my perception of his (her?) pure laziness. Or perhaps someone didn't pay attention in fifth grade.
