Jeremy Roenick takes shot at Philly fans

POSTED: Thursday, September 15, 2011, 5:06 AM

We apparently have come a long way from Jeremy Roenick's big hug of Ed Snider when Roenick signed his massive free agent contract with the Flyers in 2001.

Roenick appears on the debut episode of a show called "Master Debaters," hosted by comedian Jay Mohr, tonight on FUEL TV (10:30 p.m.) and takes his shot at Philly fans during a debate segment on the most annoying fans in sports. Also on the panel are former Oakland A's outfielder Eric Byrnes and comedian Na'im Lynn.

JR goes to the booing of Santa Claus right away and then comes with this, "Do you remember when Tie Domi of the Maple Leafs was playing the Flyers and he was in the penalty box and that Philadelphia fan dove through the glass into the penalty box after the guy ... That is messed up fans. Philadelphia fans are crazy, crazy sons of bitches."

Perhaps his point was how intimidating the Philly fans are.

Mohr then brought up a completely inacurrate portrayal of the incident involving Michael Irvin being taken from the Vet with a neck injury.

"They threw snowballs at Michael Irvin on a friggin' stretcher. The guy might have had a broken nexk and they threw friggin' snowballs at him."

There's a video clip from the show below.

First of all about this show is watched by 5 people a week and only b/c they fell asleep on the couch and didn't know it was on, so who really cares. I also really didn't hear Roenick say anything negativce he just told a story.

Why is the truth always a 'shot'? Philly fans are the worst fans in the world and you need to look no farther than the Phillies comments on these webpages. They lose, everyone kills them. Best team we have ever seen in Philly and people still act like GM's from their laptops. It's unbelievable.

First of all, JR wasn't taking a shot. He was calling us CRAZY in a positive way. Like when BAD means GOOD. And don't listen to that idiot Jay Mohr. This is a guy that legally added his wife's last name to his. What a tool!

seaonasdad ... take a look at any sports page in the country and you'll see many cases of people ripping successful teams after a loss or a bad stretch, that is what fans do.

As for the philly thing, it is an old and moronic point that talking heads in the media (like Wilbon and Bayless) continue bring up. How long are we going to have to hear about the snowball at Santa? Point is at every game in the country there are always a few dopes that take it too far, except here ... we all get characterized as dopes. Does LA get a bad rap after this year's beating, Chicago after the father and son attack on the coach? It's old and tired and lazy reporting. Case in point ... a few years ago was watching a Yankees game on ESPN ... the fans didn't like the call and littered the field with debris. Instead of saying it was a classlees move by the fans, the announcers said how the Yanks fans were showing their displeasure with the call.

Typical, inaccurate portrayal by Jay Mohr (aka Bob Sugar) of the Mike Irvin incident. There were NO snowballs and the crowd was booing Deion Sanders dancing around like a fool!

I don't think JR's comments were him taking a shot at the Philly fans at all. We are crazy, passionate fans. No offense taken. However, JR should have corrected Jay Mohr from talking nonsense that is just not true.

i couldn't care less what anybody outside this city thinks of philly fans. i'm thinking they're a tad bit jealous of all the success our teams have had over the years. not to mention the entertainment and ........cheese steaks. didn't all FOUR of the philly teams make it into the playoffs this past season? what other city can claim that? (and please don't mention that none of the teams won a championship - if you do, you're not a true philly fan - get lost).

He wasn't taking a shot - you misread it. C'mon knock off the controversy. JR loves Philly. Do you?

first off , they all forget to mention that domi and the guy are good friends and domi had paid for the guy to go watch a game in toronto , and lets not forget all the trash irvin talked about the eagles fans before they threw snowballs at him , you get what you give , and if you ask roenick if he liked playing infront of the philly fans , im betting he would tell you he loved it , cause i have seen him in other interviews saying how much he loved the flyers fans and if ppl cant handle us philly fans , its easy , stop crying , and shut us up with your play , but as irvin found , its alot easier said then done , cause i do believe his career ended in philly
