i've been against the olympics representation since the early nineties and i feel that we should focus on a cup and international side-shows sap much needed may and june energy and these guys come back from europe with nothing left in the tank,.....i realize todays kids need to express themselves through international play but the number one focus should be the cup,....win a cup first, then you can tell folks that you deserve the extra-curricular stuff;....and that doesn't even take into consideration the risk of injury either SyddBarrett

Stay hot... Philly Fan in Kuwait- I have no problem with this. Good luck, JVR, one of the few Flyers to realize that the playoffs actually started a few weeks ago.

This gives JVR another chance to gain experience at a very high level of competition. The IIHF Worlds are a high calibre tourney where skill matters more than physicality. flyerdommo
I agree with SyddBarrett, that these "extra" games should be avoided at all costs. The NHL season has become ridiculously long (over a hundred games if you go deep into the playoffs). It is the chief reason that practically no teams get back to the finals the following season. Ernie D- I think it's part of the design - part of Bettman's parity strategy to prevent dynasties, facilitate "turnover" in the Stanley Cup and ensure varied end-of-season "playoff races" - to keep all his weak markets afloat (e.g., Phoenix, Atlanta). So why worry about players getting injured in non-NHL action? Just one more way to create parity. In Bettman's eyes, the world's full of eager, young players (like Bobrovsky) who can step in and be the new poster-boy when the current one gets his knee blown out or a career ending concussion. It doesn't matter where or to who it happens. Crosby proved that this year in the outdoor "Circus In The Rain". icarus
