Holmgren talks highly of Schenn

The Flyers brought their new players to Philadelphia for a news conference on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center.

Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek were acquired via trade, as Mike Richards and Jeff Carter departed. The new players sat on a podium with general manager Paul Holmgren, answered a few questions and tried on their new Flyers jerseys.

"At the time of the trade, I said Brayden is the top player outside of the NHL," Holmgren said. "Wayne is a rough-an-tumble winger who has some real upside as a winger. Jake is a big winger, who just finished his third year in the Columbus organization. He has a real upside."

The players were asked if they feel any pressure replacing Carter and Richards.

"I don't feel any added pressure," Simmonds said. "I'm just going to come in and play my game. I'm a rough-and-tumble winger. I'm going to take pucks to the net, play my wing"

"I'm going to come in and try to prove myself," Schenn said.

"I won't feel any pressure. I'm going to come in and play my game," Voracek said.

Schenn was asked about Claude Giroux: "Obviously, I've watched him the last couple of years in the playoffs. I've watched him a long time. A lot of skill, he puts the puck in the back of the net."

Schenn is regarded as the best player of the players acquired. "We think a lot of Brayden as a young player," Holmgren said. "As with any young player, you get to training camp and you see. Brayden is going to play in the NHL, whether it is this season, we'll see. He'll be given every opportunity."

Since Schenn had #10 jersey does that mean something is in works with Versteeg?

Tonka you are an idiot. Every article you call Holmgren "nickles". The Flyers are against the cap every single year. What evidence do you have the Holmgren or the Flyers top brass are cheap? Callling Holmgren "nickles" makes you look like a fool who knows zero about hockey.

Tonka is the guy who more than a year ago claimed the Blackhawks were on their way to building a dynasty.

Isn't "Nickles" what he calls Joe Banner too. Or did he borrow that from another commentor? Creative genius I guess.
