GM Holmgren 'sore,' but in 'good spirits,' Flyers say

UPDATE: Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren says he is "sore, but otherwise in good spirits," according to the Flyers' PR staff, after a bicycle accident Sunday that left him hospitalized.

"It appears as if he hit a rut or something," Flyers president Peter Luukko said in a statement on Tuesday. "I know Paul and he is pretty fast on his bike. He probably went over pretty quick."

Holmgren was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his bike.

Holmgren remains hospitalized at Cooper Medical Center with injuries that are not life threatening. A Flyers spokesman said he did not believe Holmgren would remain hospitalized for long.

Sources indicated to the Daily News that doctors were originally concerned about possible internal bleeding which required overnight observation.

"He has broken ribs, a broken shoulder and stitches on his legs and arms," Luukko said. "But Paul's tough and he'll be right back in the game."
