Flyers make minor league deal

VOORHEES, N.J. -- After hunkering down in his office at the Flyers Skate Zone with head coach Peter Laviolette for the last hour of the NHL’s trade deadline, general manager Paul Holmgren has come up for the air.

There is one new Flyer to report.

The Flyers confirmed just after 3 p.m. that they did not make any major league moves before the NHL's trade deadline, though they made a minor league deal in shipping Phantom Greg Moore and prospect Michael Chaput to Columbus in exchange for forward Tom Sestito.

Sestito, 23, has played 9 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He is a native of Rome, N.Y. He will report to Adirondack to play for the Phantoms.

As a whole, the trade deadline was largely quiet, as expected, because of the flurry of activity in the weeks leading up to the deadline.

The Flyers were reportedly interested in both Marty Reasoner (Florida) and Chuck Kobasew (Minnesota), though both remained with their expected teams. They will finished the season with approximately $1.9 million in acquisition space.

The big winner of the deadline - even though it was first falsely reported on Twitter by bogus accounts - was the Los Angeles Kings picking up Dustin Penner from Edmonton for Colton Teubert and two high-round draft picks. Penner is a player that can immediately transform the Kings.

Paul Holmgren will address the media at 3:30 pm.

Looks to be an enforcer 6'5 210lbs perhaps we could see him within a couple years as Jody's replacement

Given the prices paid-David Steckel and a 2nd for Jason Arnott-I'm real glad they stood pat. Sestito's an interesting guy. He's huge, but isn't strictly a goon, from what the Columbus folks think. Could be on team next year

I'm glad the Flyers didn't do anything stupid at the trade deadline. Every situation is unique, but I don't usually like deals involving UFA's. It didn't sound like there were too many good deals to be made this year, so it's better to pass.

Yeah sometimes no move is a good move but really...? Another goon to add to the finest team in the east. Now the Flyers will have to roll out Shelley, Carcillo, & No Goal Nodl who somehow gets to play on the top 3 lines with Carcillo. WOW, nice work. I was really concerned that we wouldn't have Carcillo and Shelley. Sleep well tonight Flyers fans.

67Flyer----pls don't lump 'No-Goal Nodl' with Jody Shelley. Nodl has loads of offensive skills from skating, puck-handling and creativity to tireless backchecking.

Romus, yeah agree he's no Shelley or Carcillo and since the Flyers have no real number one line, guess he fits in but 1 goal in 20 games, really? Dude ain't that good, solid 4th line guy but our 4th line has no room for him since they paid WAY TOO MUCH for Carcillo and Shelley.

I'm going to laugh when we win the Cup this year with Bob & Boosh and all you people are still saying we need a #1 goalie. Newsflash- in today's NHL you don't need a true #1. Look at Neimi last year for proof. The Flyers will do just fine with Bob & Boosh as long as the rest of the team stays healthy and our D plays like the stellar D they are.

"load os offensive skill"? i think you have loads of something else for brains. he's a decent player all-around, but he doesn't have a load of anything as far as skill is concerned.
