Gustafsson re-called; Pronger worse than thought?
The Flyers have re-called rookie defenseman Erik Gustafsson from the Adirondack Phantoms.
Gustafsson, 22, will meet the Flyers in Ottawa later this afternoon in preparation for their game with the Senators tomorrow night.
Gustafsson’s re-call – after general manager Paul Holmgren said earlier in the week that he was not interested in bringing up a young player from the Phantoms to sit as a healthy scratch – may say more about Chris Pronger’s wrist injury.
Pronger took a puck off the wrist in Thursday’s overtime win but said he was fine to play against Ottawa on Saturday.
"His hand is a little bit swollen," Holmgren said. "Whether Chris can play or not [Saturday], is too soon to tell. He had a little trouble gripping his stick today."
Holmgren said Pronger had an afternoon doctors appointment to learn more.
Gustafsson was re-called earlier this season, and spent 5 days with the Flyers during a West Coast road trip, but did not play in any games.
Gustafsson is tied for the Phantoms' lead in scoring 33 points (5 goals, 28 assists) on the blue line for the Phantoms this season. He was signed out of Northern Michigan University on March 3, 2010. The Flyers chose Gustafsson over veteran Danny Syvret and fellow blueliner Kevin Marshall.

if pronged is at all hurt, just let him sit. we don't need him until April. let him rest Inchon- I agree, Inchon, but considering how many times Laviolette mentions having home-ice throughout the playoffs, it's hard not to take him seriously. For example, the Flyers haven't looked great playing in Tampa. Maybe it's the ice down there, which in April will be even worse, I don't know. Do you think the coach believes that whoever takes the Cup this year will be the team with the home-ice advantage?

You said a mouthful. hunglikeaton
Don't risk anything with Pronger right now. We need him in the playoffs! Ruffles- Glad that it was Gustafsson...he brings more to the table than Syvret at this point. He'll be on the big club next year for sure.
Not worried long-term about Pronger. He's a war horse, he'll be fine. Tartan69
Comment removed.- Tonka's posts are always so amusing. He said that Pronger's recent foot injury was a torn ACL and that Chris was done for the year. So this time he's saying 8- 10 weeks, that means Prongs may miss a game or two. LOLOL
- Here's the most recent TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/
Not one work about Pronger. Tonka is such a liar. - In this case TSN stands for Tonka's Stupid Nonsense.

Way to make up news Tonka. TSN is not reporting that at all. tool. PhillyinDaChi
the x-rays were negative. he probably just has a bad bone bruise. could be difficult to grab a hold of the stick tightly and painful to shoot the puck. at most, he'll rest it a couple days. lawsuit time
Hockey buzz . com posting Flyers close to Adam Foote deal. dros88
dros88 Did the hockey buzz post say whether or not Foote would waive his no trade clause ? It is widely thought and Foote said , he'd like to retire with Colorado , so i wonder if he'd consider moving away from his family for a hopefully long Cup run ? ingy9
Tampas ice is sooo bad,it's the only legitimate evidence of Al Gore's Global Warming. The league needs to step in and address the horrific conditions in TB.
Agree w/ lawsuit,x-rays were negative,he'll be icing it up for a few. As for Foote, the 'Lanche can take a low conditional draft pick,or nothing at all,as far as Homer's concerned. Tonka is short for Ta Tonka, which regardless of whatever definition you may use, doesn't bode well for our factually challenged friend. chaliebygolly
