Flyers trade Versteeg

Do you like the Jagr signing?
Yes
No

Just when you though maybe, just maybe, the Flyers may be done making moves on Free Agent Friday, another one comes down.

This time, the Flyers dealt forward Kris Versteeg to Florida in exchange for a second and third round pick. The second round pick is Florida's choice, either 2012 or 2013.

This move reunites Versteeg with former Chicago general manager Dale Tallon, the man responsible for bringing him to the Blackhawks.

It's also an important move for the Flyers, as it clears Verteeg's $3.083 million contract off the books, which could enable more moves to come.

The Flyers received a decent return in Versteeg, who originally cost them a 1st and 3rd round pick from Toronto on Valentine's Day. When you consider that the Flyers' first round pick is usually at the end of the round, and the Panthers' second round pick is usually at the beginning of the round, it's not a bad swap.

Versteeg added 7 goals and 4 assists for the Flyers in 27 regular season games. He also chipped in with 6 points in 11 playoff contests.

Meanwhile, Ville Leino signed with Buffalo for six years and $27 million, according to TSN.

If the whole B Richards battle is between Philly and Calgary I believe he would choose Philly...guy wants to get paid but said he also wants a title shot.

I do not think Gagne will sign here. Not after what Homer did to him last summer.

Thank the Sweet Lord that Versteeg is gone. Another move coming - however unlikely to be Gagne. Read and heard from more than a few places that he "will never play in Philly again." Hearing rumors of Handzus...

These two Paul Holmgren deals--the non-deal for Leino and trading Versteeg to the Cats--make up for the Jagr and Lilja signings this morning. Did Darcy Regier pop a pill before offering Leino all that money?

More idiots on this article. This isnt football or basketball. Its very rare that a first round pick comes out right and plays. Aside from the real special players like Crosby, Lindros etc. These clueless fans at least give me something to laugh at. LOL Coutourier is gonna play this year. SOOOOOO FUNNNY

@Philly_MIke if you believe Gagne waived you must believe in Santa too. I mean you are right technically he did waived it. In reality life is a lot tougher.

Homer: We want to trade you. Pick a team.
Gagne: I do not want to be traded. I have NTC
Homer: We will waive you and you will end up in Edmonton. So pick a team.
Gagne: Fine, let it be Tampa. No way a team like Edm will pick me off waivers.

Gagne is NOT worth getting right now. He just got done his worst season of career history while playing for a great team. The only sign of life he had was during the playoffs. He is past his prime and is completely useless to the flyers. The trades the Flyers made make sense. They are not near their cap and even having Jagr will not hurt them at 3.3 million. As you can see they did not play to keep Versteeg and Jagr will only be here for a year. The trade made sense. They're getting a solid player for a year to help them make a GOOD run at the cup. They have the talent and they cut the dead weight of Richards, Carter, & company.

not insanely overpaid. Leino is real good and is still young. Wish we couldve kept him.
