Flyers trade Versteeg
Just when you though maybe, just maybe, the Flyers may be done making moves on Free Agent Friday, another one comes down.
This time, the Flyers dealt forward Kris Versteeg to Florida in exchange for a second and third round pick. The second round pick is Florida's choice, either 2012 or 2013.
This move reunites Versteeg with former Chicago general manager Dale Tallon, the man responsible for bringing him to the Blackhawks.
It's also an important move for the Flyers, as it clears Verteeg's $3.083 million contract off the books, which could enable more moves to come.
The Flyers received a decent return in Versteeg, who originally cost them a 1st and 3rd round pick from Toronto on Valentine's Day. When you consider that the Flyers' first round pick is usually at the end of the round, and the Panthers' second round pick is usually at the beginning of the round, it's not a bad swap.
Versteeg added 7 goals and 4 assists for the Flyers in 27 regular season games. He also chipped in with 6 points in 11 playoff contests.
Meanwhile, Ville Leino signed with Buffalo for six years and $27 million, according to TSN.

- Why would you want a player that could not produce any longer with the team around him? His prime is over and he just had his worst career season. There is no place for him in Philadelphia. You can still be a fan of his, but the flyers traded him at a perfect time, if not a year too late.

Homer just made my day...unloading the magician Versteeg to some other poor team! Magician because I've never seen a player play soooo small and disappear as much as he did for the Flyers. And Leino! Yikes, that's a lot of years and a lot of money for a guy we rescued from Detroit for Olaf Tolleson (who???) and whose hip will never make it 6 years! Yipiddy do-dah! Homer you da man! We look good on the RW with Jagr, Voraceck, Simmonds and Nodl.
We are loaded at Center with Giroux, Briere, Schenn, Talbot and Coutourier so it doesn't look good for Betts.
On the LW we have JVR and Hartnell (if we dont count Carcillo and Shelley)
It looks like we need a signing at LW - Could Gagne be the target? KRMMRK- Coutourier will be hard-pressed to make the team this year.
You're forgetting about Simmonds on the left. sklandog - I'm going to stop posting. Frank's creepy picture in the upper right hand corner of this page is weirding me out, and I can't think straight.
sklandog - Oh, nevermind. I didn't see you listed him as a RW. I'm pretty certain he plays the left side.

just heard on NHL network that the FLyers are back in on BRad RIchards, and clearing versteegs money makes sense if that is true.

perfect photo of versteeg. blackhawk players somehow all picked up on the dangling mouthpiece thing from kane. ChiBubba
I think people have really dogged the Jagr deal for no reason. He was uninterested in NY and still dropped 25 goals. I would be willing to bet he scores between 25 t 35 with the Flyers next year. UncleStosh
I love Leino but at the price? Let Buffalo have him. Versteeg has tools but didn't seem to fit in the Philly offense. Flyers still have some money to play with to sign Gange. But what about backup goaltending? I see Boucher signed with Carolina Hurricanes - 2 yrs., $1.9m. Is Bobrovsky going to be happy playing 20-25 games and riding the pines for Bryzgalov. Flyers can't use Leighton becuase he's a cap hit outside the AHL unless Bob is traded. phillyfandc
I never really understood the fascination with Leino, after a great post season 2 years ago he was a nice - but average - player, easily replaced. No way he was worth what he got. djembe323
Comment removed.- Bob Backlund's done, man.
