Flyers' schedule released

Outdoor hockey is a staple in Canada and in the northern most parts of the United States. In Philadelphia, however, it's generally limited to a bunch of kids with Koho sticks, roller blades and those orange plastic pucks. Mister, can you please move your car?

Until now.

The league released its schedule today, but did not officially say the Flyers will be in the Winter Classic. The Daily News confirmed through sources, however, that the Winter Classic will be played at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, Jan. 2, at 1 p.m. The Flyers will play the Rangers. The Daily News first reported in April that the Flyers would host the Rangers in the Winter Classic.

The season opener on Thursday, Oct. 6 will be just as special — if you're a Bruins fan.

The Flyers will have a front-row seat for when the Bruins raise their first championship banner in 39 years that night. The Flyers' home opener is against the other Stanley Cup finalist when Vancouver and the Sedin twins visit the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Another highlight is the trip to Ilya Bryzgalov's former home of Phoenix on Saturday, Dec. 3. Still to be determined, of course, is Bryzgalov's newest home.

The All-Star Game is Sunday, Jan. 29 in Ottawa.

The Flyers, who will be trying to end a Stanley Cup drought that stretches back to 1975, conclude the season with a visit to Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 7.
