Carter skates; Flyers injury updates

POSTED: Tuesday, May 3, 2011, 11:55 AM

Jeff Carter skated on Tuesday morning, reportedly for approximately 10 minutes, for the first time since sustaining a knee injury in Game 4 against Buffalo back on April 20.

But the Flyers have gone into a complete blackout mode when it comes to updates on injuries.

General manager Paul Holmgren said Chris Pronger (undisclosed), Andreas Nodl (eye), Michael Leighton (back) and Carter all remain day to day.

Pronger did not play in Game 2 against Boston last night with no explanation given, although there is plenty of speculation as to what is ailing him from a hamstring injury to a back injury.

It's probably safe to say, though, that Pronger isn't just "day-to-day with hurt feelings," as he normally says, despite being on the ice for three Bruin goals.

Carter, who led the Flyers in goals during the regular season, probably remains doubtful to make a return in Game 3, though Friday night's Game 4 could be a possibility.

RECORD RATINGS: Monday night's Game 2 in the Flyers-Bruins series received a 10.70 household rating in Philadelphia, the best rating in the area on Versus since last year's Stanley Cup finals.

The game was up 134 percent from the Flyers' 2010 semifinal three-game average in Philly.

Versus was the No. 1 rated cable network in Philadelphia last night during the 7:30 to 10:45 time slot.

carter's fallopian tubes here; please don't expect us to perform our normal duties and then show up for hockey games. we're not miracle workers you know.

I will always stand by our team but as stated time and time again, we need a goaltender. We have an unreal team in front of our goalies, that second goal last night has to be stopped. So deflating to a team when that happens... Not all great teams play great nonstop, you need your goalie to bail you out, just like thomas did last night. Hope they win and they can definately win but we still need a goalie... Notable FA's in my order... Bryzgalov and Emery... Bring me Bryzgalov, could have had him a few years ago before he was traded from the ducks to the yotes...

The Flyers are a laughing stock when it comes to organizational goaltending. The entire league knows it. No decent FA goalie in his right mind would ever want to come here, and no other team in the league is just going to give the Flyers their stud goalie or top prospect without something big in return. Like it or not, next year it is likely Bob and Leighton.

Still laugh at all the "if only we had a goalie" cra_. If only we had Gretzky in his prime. and Messier and Beliveau and Hull and Mikita. Or Esposito. if only...

We got Boosh, Bob and Leighton. Got any relevant comments?

How is that irrelevant when it has plagued our franchise for 20 years and you just named 2 players that are career backups and 1 who the flyers got lucky with but still didnt expect him to even make the team? How is it irrelevant when we dominated the sabres and they took us to 7, facing elim in 6? How is it irrelevant when the Bruins scored 7 in game 1 and than Boosh lets in a cra_ goal in game 2? I know bona-fide #1 goaltenders do not grow on trees but at some point, the flyers brass has to try and make a trade or something to get a guy between the pipes... I continue to stick by the Flyers year in and year out despite this obvious flaw and will continue to do so, but please, definately not irrelevant.

A hot goalie wins playoff games. A #2 or #3 goalie can get hot but it seems the odds are in favor when a #1 gets hot. Perhaps we get one next year. Bob had a great Regular season but it seems that Lavvy doesnt have confidence in him, just sayin...

I would have liked to see Bob in net, consistently. If we lost with Bob I would feel better. I understand not making a move, at the time the Flyers decided not to make a move, because none of the available options looked better than Bob. If we lose with Bouch, what have we really learned? That a journeyman, career back up cannot take us to the Cup win? We didn't know that already?

Any injury update out of Homer's mouth is useless anyway. Pronger was "fine" before yesterday's game - so I guess that makes him a healthy scratch.

how about carter to the ducks for sbisa, the rights to Bryzgalov? I've never been one to scream for Carter to be shipped out but with the way JVR has turned into the player Carter should be, we can use that money to get the d a little younger and take the pressure off of Bob by putting a true #1 in front of him for a year or two.

Carter hasn't contributed much when he was in the lineup. This is not a case of one missing player making a difference. This descent into mediocrity started in late February, and it's a team issue that's not likely to change for the better anytime soon. Flyers may win one game, but it's highly unlikely they will win four of the last five.

Pronger and Carter have both violated the 'Darren Daulton hurt vs. injured' rule (you have to play if you're hurt) so they'll get swept and the two "warriors" will have five months to recover.

enough with the negative....this is a very good flyers team; one of the deepest in the league. no way thomas can continue to see that many quality shots without letting a few more in. This has been the year of the road team so far and I'm hoping that continues this week....Let's go Flyers!!!

All the Bruins did was hold serve on their road-ice advantage. If the Flyers don't win both in Boston it's (probably) over, but in this year's playoffs a series doesn't start until someone wins at home...

If they play like the did in game and end up losing the series, hey, we lost to a better team. But if they play like they did in game 1, that is inexusable. Thomas stole game 2, and that will happen, which is exactly why you have to come out on all cylanders for game 1 - you can't give any away.

Outplay an opponent that bad and still lose. It's disheartening but a win in game 3 and they is hope of still winning this series. GO FLYERS!!!

While their looking for a goalie to consistently stop those 40 footers they should also conduct a search for Richards (the tin man, no heart) and Timmonen (the Scarecrow, no brain). 36 years and counting, keep rolling our Kate, Bonny & Bernie, we can get another 36 years out of that 74 team !!!

all, I know that is that last night it wasn't the goalie that shot the puch around the net harder then it needed to , and it wasn't a goalie that did make the extra effort to accept the hard pass, they were both are top 4 defensemen....this team boasts the best defense corp, but they haven't showed up in the Boston series

Gotta play Pronger. Must suit up Carter even if he gets limited shifts. One of the most hustling guys in Carbomb but he may have to sit.
What concerns me, aside from the obvious net minder issues, is the somewhat flaky play by Carle. He is better than he has shown. And Ville as good as he is, needs to do more than go in left wing, stop, turn and look to pass. He and Z need to simply shoot. And speaking of Z he looks reborn. He is all over the ice. I like the way he's playing.
Lastly, mix up the lines - all the time. Keep them now on their toes somwhat (if we can).

Mediocrity? WildwoodDays, how do you define the term? This year the Flyers were 2nd in their conference (3rd in the league) and now are one of 8 teams left in the playoffs. even if they lose this series (and I'm not conceding that) there's no way to define them as mediocre.
