FSN Pittsburgh employee suspended

FSN Pittsburgh has suspended an employee, the son of a former Penguins player because of a goal-review incident last week against the Flyers at Mellon Arena, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Lowell MacDonald Jr., son of former Penguins player Lowell MacDonald and a member of FSN's telecast staff, was indefinitely suspended by the network. The controversy was a review of a play to determine if Simon Gagne scored a goal in the the second period of a Flyers' victory. FSN Pittsburgh had a replay that showed the puck crossing the goal line but the replay was not sent to the NHL review booth in Toronto. The replay was not aired on local television until after the review was concluded.

The Post-Gazette reported that in a statement, FSN Pittsburgh said, "There is nothing more important than the integrity of the game. During last Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers, a definitive replay of a Flyers goal was not aired prior to the conclusion of the official review and, as a result, a Flyers goal was not awarded. Fortunately, this did not change the outcome of the game. Nonetheless, FSN Pittsburgh's failure to provide video to the league officials in a timely fashion was wholly unacceptable. FSN Pittsburgh has addressed this matter and has taken steps to ensure that such a failure does not occur again."

The Penguins also issued a statement: "We fully support FSN Pittsburgh in its reaction to this issue. The integrity of the game is paramount."

He should be suspended...in front of a net for a Flyers shoot around.

I heard Lowell MacDonald Jr. works for Rejean Shero, the Pens GM, and this goes all the way to the top with the GM telling him what replays he wants aired.

the officials in Toronto should have a list of every camera that is in use that night. it should also be required the look at a replay form every camera for a review. Even if the camera is the goal camera from the opposite end. This would ensure nothing is missed again.

I'll take Morganti's idea further. Instead of just a draft pick, the Pens have to send Malkin to the Flyers. Not so far-fetched, considering how Bettman The Great orchestrated the post-lockout resurrection of the lowly Pens by handing them Fleury, Malkin, Crosby and Staal. Bush League.

Dishonesty has pervaded the pittsburgh hockey culture for two decades. No franchise has had more quality hockey players take so many dives (and whine so much to the refs). No franchise has tanked so many seasons to get high draft picks. No club's announcers are more dishonest (and childish) in calling the games. No owner (lemieux) has professed such fake love for his city, when he was willing to move the franchise to another town for more $$$ at the drop of a hat. This instance of outright cheating is all part of the pittsburgh hockey culture. There are a good bunch of pro teams I hate, like any loyal Philadelphia fan, but none I disrespect more than the penguins.

Yo' dollarland, read the article again. It was Lowell McDonald's son, not the ex-Pens player involved in the incident, you moron. Typical Flyers fan......
