FSN Pittsburgh has suspended an employee, the son of a former Penguins player because of a goal-review incident last week against the Flyers at Mellon Arena, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Lowell MacDonald Jr., son of former Penguins player Lowell MacDonald and a member of FSN's telecast staff, was indefinitely suspended by the network. The controversy was a review of a play to determine if Simon Gagne scored a goal in the the second period of a Flyers' victory. FSN Pittsburgh had a replay that showed the puck crossing the goal line but the replay was not sent to the NHL review booth in Toronto. The replay was not aired on local television until after the review was concluded.

The Post-Gazette reported that in a statement, FSN Pittsburgh said, "There is nothing more important than the integrity of the game. During last Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers, a definitive replay of a Flyers goal was not aired prior to the conclusion of the official review and, as a result, a Flyers goal was not awarded. Fortunately, this did not change the outcome of the game. Nonetheless, FSN Pittsburgh's failure to provide video to the league officials in a timely fashion was wholly unacceptable. FSN Pittsburgh has addressed this matter and has taken steps to ensure that such a failure does not occur again."

The Penguins also issued a statement: "We fully support FSN Pittsburgh in its reaction to this issue. The integrity of the game is paramount."

At least nothing drastic will happen, like the NHL taking over control of the entire video replay process and cutting out the control of the third parties contracted by the individual teams.

Can you imagine if it was the other way around with Philly stations being at fault? The whole NHL would be outraged!

ChrisM - agreed!...JSaq - love the sarcasm...I do think it's good though that they suspended the clown, and didn't sweep it under the rug. Now, give Gagne, and the Flyers, the goal they both deserve. You never know when the tie-breaker will be needed!

Loved Morganti's idea on DNL tonight. Pens should forfeit a draft pick because of this. Could you imagine a game w/ playoff implications or a playoff game itself being decided by some idiot who decides to hold a camera angle from the replay official in Toronto?

Who cares if the Pens have to forfeit a draft pick? Tne NHL will just award them a number 1 pick anyway.

Hahahaha!!!! In case no one noticed, the FSN employee was Lowell MacDonald, one of the many Pens players who got thoroughly trounced by the Flyers through the 70's – you remember when the Pens didn’t win at the Spectrum for 15 years? Guess he never got over it! LOL, I love it!

Should he be suspended...? He (in affect) altered the score of a professional sporting event. A silly, stupid homer move which can not be tolerated anywhere in any professional sport. Tell me how this is not grounds for dismissal? I hope the league makes sure this guy stays out of the video booth in the future...

They found a fall guy - what frauds - how many times has this happened before, the refs help them on the ice and the replay people off the ice...Nice - wish I had girly features like Syd

Suspended, and hopefully, pending further review, fired. The NHL should have all feeds from both teams (if both have separate video) going to Toronto before the opening faceoff. It should never come down to some employee at the networks.

He had a wager on the game. Not a large one but he did bet the game.
