Expect Carter to play

POSTED: Thursday, April 8, 2010, 1:04 PM

Flyers forward Jeff Carter skated in today’s Flyers practice and said he will be a game-time decision for tomorrow night’s win-to-get-in matchup with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Carter said he felt “good” but did feel pain because “there is a screw in my foot,” and said he expects to feel pain for a few more weeks.

“I thought Jeff did fine during the practice,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “But I think we need to see how this responds tomorrow before we make any decisions. We’ll go from there.

“The way I understand it, if he’s in any pain we need to back him off. With the screw in place, I think the chances of him [injuring it worse] are slim. We want to see how he is tomorrow.”

Holmgren has long said that Carter's availability will depend on his pain tolerance.

My two cents: Carter is a lock to play tomorrow night. He did not hesitate when skating, his conditioning level is close to where it was, and the injury is unlikely to have any future impact. Oh, yeah, and he is their leading scorer.

In hockey, if you can walk, you can play.

Look for Carter to play with Scott Hartnell and Arron Asham, most likely bumping Danny Briere back to the wing.

In other news, Tim Kerr will miss the entire playoffs for the Flyers.

Let's put Carts between our two offensive jauggernauts, Richie and Briere's Bunch.

Not sure about the financial impact of playoffs. I think that playoffs are all gravy for Snider / Comcast / Mgmt. Therefore, having a chance against Devils, and possibly getting to round 2 is a great $$$ maker relative to not getting in, or being swept by the Caps. So, of course, mgmt would risk it all (including odds of Carter's re-injury) to make the playoffs as a 6th or 7th seed. How much $$$ is this about, I don't know. How much Flyers net for hosting a sold-out game?

dgabs???? Look out the sky is falling, the sky is falling! Right we don't have wingers, we don't have a goalie, we don't have a GM or a captain or defence. Man what team are you cheering for?

Tomorrow is like a Game 6 in a series the Flyers lead 3-2. Rest Carter for the first game and use him if needed for "Game 7." If they can't pick up 2 points against the Rangers without Carter they should be heading home for the summer anyway.

If he does, I'm sure Avery will be going after him.

Pierre Maguire said the Flyers need to play an uptempo offense to befuddle the slow Rangers defense. If Laviolette dresses Riley Cote for the sole purpose of getting into a fight with Jody Shelley and chasing after Sean Avery like in the March 14th loss to the Rangers, then the Flyers aren't serious about winning. They should dress Jeff Carter and play him exclusively on the power play, which has been lagging since his injury. Let the Rangers take the dumb penalties, not the other way around. It's their back up against the wall, not the Flyers'.

Whatever happens tomorrow, they need to grab Avery and pound the hell out of him. Activate Cote to use Avery as his personal punching bag, or vice versa, whatever gets Avery off the ice and out of the way. I don't think he's very talented, but damn annoying and did have two goals last game.

He should play to help get the win. Once they win, they should sit him out Sundays game. That should give him even more time to heal before the playoffs start. Or on the flip side if he sits out tonight and they lose, they could put him in Sunday to help seal the playoffs and he still has time to rest. But then again, whats the difference between 2 days anyway, he should play tonight.
