Emery out 3 weeks

POSTED: Thursday, February 11, 2010, 1:38 PM

Flyers goalie Ray Emery, who has a sore left hip, will not skate for 3 weeks as a precautionary measure.

Emery will miss Friday's home game with Montreal and Saturday's game at the Canadiens. The Flyers return from the Olympic break on March 2 against Tampa Bay. Emery would return several days after that game.

A source told the Daily News this week that Emery might have a torn labrum and might need hip surgery.

So in other words, he's going to sit for three weeks and THEN they'll decide he needs surgery. Wow, did they get their medical training from the three stooges academy? Another injury prone Flyer...what a surprise. I hope Homer doesn't resign this guy and give him a multi year contract with a NTC thrown in like our other injury prone twins or we're sunk. Leighton has proven he's been more than capable when given the chance so let's stick with him and keep Boosh as our backup. It's working so far- at least it is when our forwards decide to show up for the game. Sometimes it's painful to be a Flyers fan. (HTML deleted)

I am pretty sure we can get Esche back for cheap. His numbers in the KHL are pretty good...27-7-5 this year! If you can't afford quality, may as well go with quantity. I am still glad that Leighton is winning, but I do not want to see him starting in the playoffs.

Honestly, put him on IR; save money and go get a someone, anyone. The experiement failed. The roster needs some fixing. The Flyer need to move Briere and get what they can. He is a waste and never amounted to much. Ship him to Montreal, they want him, and go get a real #1 goalie. Ridding the Flyers of #48 is a 7 million cap savings, and there is no lose on the team.

If we go for a real goalie out of this Emery is a real asset. Pay whatever it cost because we have no untouchable.

Who cares. This team is going no where anyway. Don't worry about it. Flyers can't compete with Washington and Pittsburgh. Not even close. 7 games series the cream rises

Fabulous: You act as if the Flyers are the only team with recurring injuries. It is a problem across the entire NHL - the Devils had like 5 men down with injuries last night. And Forsberg-- are you really trying to say his recurring injuries were/are the fault of the Flyers? The guy has been plagued with foot problems FOREVER. Come on, keep it real.

The Flyers have shown they can win with Leighton in net. So as long as they keep scoring goals and playing sound defense, this team will be very dangerous.

I think Leighton is playing well and should be the #1. Until he losses the spot.

The Flyers training staff is fired!!! Forsberg, Brierre, Gagne, Nitty, Eshe, Emery, the list keeps growing. Its not a coincidence, its something is wrong with this picture!
    Fabulous

Is it just me, or has Leighton been the goalie doing the better job of the three anyways? I'm not saying I wouldn't want Emery as a backup, but Leighton has proved to be the better of the two (look at the stats as well).

Leighton reminds me of my childhood favorite, Hextall. Soft goals were a problem with him and soft goals seem to be a problem with Leighton. He has played great this year but soft goals in the playoffs are a killer. But with the way the Flyers manage the cap what choice do they have but to go with him.

When are they going to realize they may have a cheap and pretty good goalie tight in front of them. Leighton has played great and steady. Most goalies come into their own around his age. Stick with him for the next three weeks and see what happens. If he keeps playing the way he has since they picked him up, he should get the extension not Emery.

Just leave Turco in Dallas. Leighton deserves his shot.

This team is no better than a playoff appearance and first-round exit. Any move they make in response should be to help their long-term situation. I really think they should be sellers at the trade deadline but I doubt Snider & Co. could ever bring themselves to do that.

When will the Flyers stop going to goodwill or bargain basement stores for goalies???? Probably never.

Can't they find out for sure if surgery is needed?

All 3 of our Goaltenders have been solid. (Even Boosh, the team was playing just horrible then) Let him rest as much as he can.

The big question on Emery coming into this season has been the off-ice and character issues. Turns out the guy can't stay healthy. Not sure we have the flexibility to make any moves. Lets hope the offense picks up and Leighton stays consistent, he's been good so far.
