If you are a throwback Flyers fan from the 1970’s glory days, you undoubtedly have lots of fond memories of Dave Schultz. From his fights to his bruising hits, Schultz was a staple in the Flyers’ two Stanley Cup runs.

Next month, you will get a chance to re-live those memories.

It was announced today that Dave “The Hammer” Schultz will be inducted in the Flyers Hall of Fame prior to the Nov. 16 game against the New Jersey Devils at the Wachovia Center.

Schultz will be the 20th member to be immortalized in the Flyers’ Hall. Ron Hextall was inducted last year.

“Dave Schultz helped define Philadelphia Flyers hockey,” said Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider. “He played with a high level of intensity, always proudly defending the orange and black and making it difficult for our opponents. He never backed down and he fought hard every night, wearing his heart on his sleeve. While his temporary home was in the penalty box, we’re glad that he will have a permanent home in the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame.”

Schultz recorded 51 goals and 64 assists for 115 points in the regular season, including 1,386 penalty minutes, which rank fifth all-time in Flyers history. In 1974-75, Schultz recorded 472 penalty minutes in 76 games with the Flyers to set an NHL record for most penalty minutes in one season.

The Flyers’ Hall of Fame members include:

1988 - Bob Clarke and Bernie Parent
1989 - Bill Barber, Ed Snider and Keith Allen
1990 - Rick MacLeish and Fred Shero
1991 - Barry Ashbee and Gary Dornhoefer
1992 - Reggie Leach and Gene Hart
1993 - Joe Scott and Ed Van Impe
1994 - Tim Kerr
1996 - Joe Watson
1999 - Brian Propp
2001 - Mark Howe
2004 - Dave Poulin
2008 - Ron Hextall

When is Eric Lindros going in? Are they just going to ignore one of the best players in their history?

I like Schultz but im sorry if a guy who made a career out of fighting and hitting and not much a good "hockey player" can even get into the Flyers HOF then Lindros better be the next player inducted. He may not have been the most productive player in their history but definitly the most talented and he put the Flyers back on the map when he came to this city. He made hockey fun again. Lindros should be in th e Flyers and the NHL HOF

Agreed...as long as Bob Clarke has his say, Lindros will not be inducted, regardless of him supposedly pushing Eric for the NHL HOF. The #88 E-Train should be in now! Anyway, I am shocked that Schultz wasn't in already...good for him- Let's see Recchi and LeClair go in next

Realistic One
Is it necessary to cover the team bonding trip in FL, or is it just a way for the writers to sneak in a few days' vacation? I mean really. Do we need to know who won the sailing race?

Not really on topic, but are any other out of area Flyers fans having issues with Directv and the center ice pkg deleting Flyers(not on versus) games from their schedule???They were supposed to show the game with Anaheim, didn't,told me it was blacked out,and that ESPN has all the rights to the NHL!!!That was a line of b/s!!!I live in freakin Wyoming, why would it be blacked out here??? Dish network showed it.I am sure it has to do with the Versus thing.

LeClair will go in before Lindros. Bobby can't bury that grudge. Not that #10 doesn't deserve it, but you won't see 88 in there anytime soon.

Lindros wouldnt show up anyway, he didnt show up to the last Spectrum game where like every other Flyer did. So he won't be inducted cause the ceremony would be pretty dumb without him there. Don't put all of that mess on Clarke Lindros and his overinvolved parents were part of the problem as well.

Lindros' 1.355ppg vs. Clarke's 1.05ppg should at the very least get you into the Flyers Hall. By the way maybe a guy like Rick Toccett should be considered?????????????

The only way they could put Lindros in is at same time as LeClair. How could LeClair get in if Lindros doesn't? Eric made this guys career. Johnny Vermont was a third line player until he joined the Flyers and Lindros helped make him into a (3) time 50 goal scorer. After #88 got traded, LeClair could never adapt to another center, and was pretty useless. Congrats to The Hammer!!!!

Dave Schultz got the first assist on the biggest goal the Flyers have ever scored - Clarke's overtime winner in game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals in the old Boston Garden in 1974. Schultz got control of the puck in the left corner, passed it to Bill Flett who passed it to Clarke. Bobby's first shot was saved but he flipped the rebound over the goalie for the winner. Go to youtube.com and search for "Bobby Clarke goal" and you can see for yourself. Talk to any Flyer fan who was around back then and I'll bet they can tell you where they were and who they were with when that goal was scored. One of the most memorable pictures in Flyers history is Clarke's leap for joy.

Baby, how long can you keep me in the penalty box? Baby, I'm wrong but it's lonely in the penalty box. I know I broke the rules, but rules are broken by fools! Baby, how long can you keep me in the penalty box?
