Carter, Carcillo, Powe out with flu symptoms

Flyers forward Jeff Carter is ill and will not play tonight against Toronto at the Wells Fargo Center.

Carter is not the only one suffering from flu-like symptoms, according to GM Paul Holmgren.

Dan Carcillo and Darrell Powe also are out tonight. Coach Peter Laviolette did not sound great in his pregame meeting with the media, but he is behind the bench.

Earlier today, the Flyers re-called defenseman Ben Holmstrom from Adirondack for tonight's game. He is making his NHL debut.

James van Riemsdyk, who missed practice Tuesday with a nagging lower body injury, was in the lineup. He practiced yesterday and had been deemed a coach's decision.

Since the 23-man roster is no longer in effect after the trade deadline, the Flyers did not need to assign anyone to the Phantoms to make room for Holmstrom. Holmstrom, a product of UMass-Lowell, has 10 goals and 17 assists in 60 games for Adirondack this season.
