Carcillo could face suspension

Dan Carcillo could become the second Flyer to be suspended this week alone.

That’s if the NHL’s discipline committee tagged his third period hit on Ruslan Fedotenko as one to be reviewed by Colin Campbell this morning.

Carcillo was lining up Fedotenko for a hit just 66 seconds into the third period of the Flyers’ 4-1 win over New York on Thursday night when Fedotenko fell to one knee to avoid the check. That caused Carcillo to connect with Fedotenko’s head as he passed by.

Carcillo would have made a normal open-ice hit if Fedotenko didn’t go to one knee.

There was no penalty called on the play, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any supplementary discipline.

Video of the hit is below.

Danny Briere was suspended 3 games on Monday for his cross-check to the head of the Islanders’ Frans Nielsen on Saturday.

Fedotenko, who laid on the ice while being attended to by the Rangers’ training staff, said after the game that he was sure the league would review the hit.

“It was a shot to the head,” Fedotenko said. “I’m sure the NHL will legally review it and see if it’s a clear shot to the head or not. I’m sure it will be addressed.”

Did outspoken Rangers coach John Tortorella have a problem with the hit?

“Sure, why wouldn’t I?” Tortorella asked. “What do we talk about? We get these tapes sent to us during the summer and the beginning of the year. Why send them? It’s a waste.”

Tortorella was referencing the videos circulated by the league in an effort to cut down on hits to the head.

Carcillo is considered a repeat offender by the league. He was suspended on two different occasions last season for a total of 6 games.

What do you think? Should Carcillo be suspended?
