Boucher Hurt

Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher left tonight's preseason game against the New Jersey Devils.

NEWARK, N.J. – Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher left tonight's preseason game against the New Jersey Devils after just 11 minutes and 54 seconds of game action.

Boucher stopped two shots and allowed a goal to Dainius Zubrus before abruptly leaving with what Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren is calling a "lower body injury."

Boucher may have tweaked his groin or hamstring when attempting to make a save, though it wasn't clear what was troubling him.

"They don't think it's too bad," coach John Stevens said after the game. "He seems to have a little bit of an issue there so we didn't want to push it ... I am sure we are not going to know exactly what it is until we get it looked at by our doctor."

The Flyers' third goaltender in camp was Johan Backlund, who is already back in Glens Falls, N.Y., with the Adirondack Phantoms.

Ray Emery came in and stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Flyers lost to the Devils, 1-0, to fall to 2-3-1 in the preseason. They conclude the preseason Tuesday against Minnesota at the Wachovia Center.

As we reported in today's Daily News, defenseman Randy Jones was waived in order to clear salary cap space.

"It was a difficult decision, obviously," Holmgren said. "We will see what happens over the next couple of days whether he gets claimed off waivers or not. We need to have some flexibility with our roster and this potentially could give us more flexibility."
