Homer: Pronger will not play tonight

UPDATE: General manager Paul Holmgren, who earlier in the day said Chris Pronger was fine, announced Monday night that the star defenseman will not play in Game 2.

He said Jeff Carter, Andreas Nodl and Michael Leighton are all day-to-day

FROM EARLIER: Chris Pronger did not participate in today's morning skate and his availability for tonight's game is cloudy. Coach Peter Laviolette deferred comment to general manager Paul Holmgren, who was not at the Wells Fargo Center. It's unclear whether his absence was injury-related and a team spokesman said an update would be coming from Homer at some point soon.

Laviolette did say that Brian Boucher was starting in net for tonight's Game 2 against the Bruins. Boucher gave up five goals in Saturday's loss, but Laviolette said tonight was about redemption for the entire team, which includes his goaltender.

The post-practice locker room was abuzz with talk of the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. James van Riemsdyk, who grew up 45 minutes from Ground Zero, said his home of Middletown, N.J., lost several people during the Sept. 11 attacks.

"One of my good friends' dad passed away that day. It was a sad day and a lot of good people died that day," said van Riemsdyk, who was 12 at the time. "To see (Bin Laden) finally brought to justice makes you proud to be an American."
