APP ONLY: Notes from Buffalo
BUFFALO -- Here are some interesting notes from the Flyers' 5-2 win against the Sabres at HSBC Arena, where all 5 of the Flyers' goals were unanswered:
Danny Briere tied a career high with four points. It's the fifth four-point game of his career and his fourth with the Flyers. His last was Nov. 23, 2009 at Colorado.
Scott Hartnell's three-point game was a season high and his first three-point game since Nov. 2, 2009 vs. Tampa Bay. It's his 10th game of three or more points with the Flyers and the 17th of his career. Hartnell one-upped the Gordie Howe hat trick with two goals, one assist and one fight.
Sergei Bobrovsky's 38 saves tied his season/career high. He also made 38 saves at Montreal on Dec. 15.
The Flyers are now 9-8-3 when allowing the first goal of the game. Washington is the only other team in the league with an above-.500 record when allowing the first goal (12-11-2).
The Flyers were outshot 12-3 through the first 9:59 of the game (the time of Buffalo's second goal). The Flyers then outshot the Sabres 30-28 over the rest of the game.
Andrej Meszaros was plus-2 on the night, raising his league-leading total to plus-27. Ville Leino, who was also plus-2, has jumped to third in the league in the category at plus-22 on the season.
The Flyers were credited with 10 hits during the game, their lowest total since they had 9 at Toronto on December 9. They also won 60 percent of their faceoffs, which was their best performance percentage-wise since that same Toronto game, when they were 68 percent on draws.
The Flyers only had five of their shots blocked tonight, which ties a season low.
