Danny Briere will have a conference call tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the NHL discipline committee to discuss a possible suspension for his stickwork on the Islanders' Frans Neilsen in the final minute of the Flyers' 6-1 win last night.
Briere and Neilsen were jawing prior to a faceoff and after the puck was dropped Briere went to Neilsen's face with his stick. He was called for a cross-check major and then given a game misconduct.
That led to a lot of pushing and shoving between both teams and included a game misconduct for Dan Carcillo.
PITTSBURGH -- On Thursday, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said he was not trying to send a message by bumping Nik Zherdev to the fourth line, where he skated with Jody Shelley and Blair Betts.
“There was no message-sending there,” Laviolette said. "[Andreas] Nodl played good, and I wanted to see him on that line today. I think he's worked hard, and he's done what we've asked."
If the message wasn’t sent on Thursday, it was delivered on Friday night.
Loud and clear.

PITTSBURGH -- Sergei Bobrovsky did it once, a little more than 3 weeks ago, but can he do it again?
That’s the thought process behind Bobrovsky making his second start in Pittsburgh tonight, at the Penguins’ new Consol Energy Center. Bobrovsky shut out the Penguins for 2 periods in the Flyers’ 3-2 win on opening night back on Oct. 7.
Face-off is at 7 o'clock on the Comcast Network.

COLUMBUS -- Brian Boucher will get his second consecutive start tonight when the Flyers take on the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
The Flyers have lost just once to Columbus in their 10 years of existence, holding a 5-1-3 record.
Boucher actually played 3 games for Columbus in 2006-07, one of the 6 NHL teams he has played for in his 11-year NHL career.

Matt Walker probably could have planned umpteen better introductions to the Flyers.
But those formal re-introductions will have to wait at least 10 to 12 weeks, as the newly acquired defenseman will undergo hip surgery Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn., to repair a nagging injury.
“Matt Walker will undergo surgery on his right hip [Tuesday] to repair a boney impingement and a torn labrum,” general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement. “The surgery will take place in Nashville and will be performed by Dr. Thomas Byrd. Matt is expected to be out of action for 10-12 weeks.”
