This was the hit, by Washington's Milan Jurcina, that caused van Riemsdyk's head trauma.

Flyers rookie James van Riemsdyk was back on the ice today after not skating for six days with a head injury that was sustained last Tuesday against Washington.

Van Riemsdyk’s “head trauma” was never officially diagnosed as a concussion. He was pain-free after Monday’s practice, which included at least 10 minutes of hard skating at the end.

“It was a good test for me to see where my head is at and it felt good,” van Riemsdyk said. “It was my first skate there. If I can get through that one, I can probably get through a lot of them – that was a pretty tough practice.”

Van Riemsdyk, 20, didn't have any headaches at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday - in a loud environment - as he watched the Eagles knock-off Tampa Bay with the rest of his teammates.

He is flying with the team today to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where the Flyers will be doing team bonding events throughout the week on the Atlantic Ocean. He is expected to be ready to play in Friday night’s game against the Panthers.

Read tomorrow’s Daily News for more information and about what to expect during the team’s bonding adventures.

Good news. I know it's only been a few games, but the kid looks like a player.

Let's hope he's 100%, and doesn't come back too soon.

I agree, no reason to rush him back. On a positive note, no more Cote.

I don't think he has looked good at all. Before the injury against the caps, he looked lost out there. Granted he had some goals in the preseason, but he is not playing against teams with all of their guys either.

I just hope we don't see another Lindros-type syndrome... Hopefully JVR keeps his head up on the ice

to add further he has been on the third line supplying those assist earning his stripes. He clearly deserves to be on the roster.
