Flyers acquire Boucher, Foster

The Flyers have acquired goalie Brian Boucher and free-agent defenseman Kurtis Foster.

Boucher, 36, has played with the Flyers twice before. He was acquired from Carolina for minor league forward Luke Pither. Boucher played 10 games last season as he battled a groin injury. He had a 3.41 goals-against average and .881 save percentage.

Foster, 31, is a righthanded shot. He is 6-5, 226 pounds who played for the Wild, Ducks and Devils last season. He scored four goals and had 10 assists in 51 games.

With Bouch back in the fold, can a Cup be far behind?

The cup is a lock. The Flyers were low on defensemen (as usual), but Foster fixes that issue.

Well, we were closest to the cup with Boucher around in two separate occasions. And he can't do worse than Bryz.

Why? Hasn't the mediocre goalie hurt us enough over the years?

WHY? Foster is an AHL type and Bouche is not needed

We got Arian Foster,WOW! Oh,it is Kurtis, sorry. Not a bad signing ,a little depth,no? Did someone really say they would miss Carle? Must be the guy that bought his jersey last year because his name is Matt too, Matt Schmidlapp from Shickelimmey , you know the one wearing size 5X with the foam Flyers fingers on each hand. Lets Go Flyers!

Suporma - Please tell me you are not implying that Boucher is a better goalie than Bryz...because if you are, I'd love to hear some other moves the Flyers can make to improve the squad. Maybe swap Coutourier for say, Sami Kappanan. We could probably swing that deal. Dope.

Welcome back, Bouche! He is one of the most beloved players in the last 20 years of Flyers hockey. I always hoped that he would retire a Flyer and it looks like the possibility is there. I, for one, am eager to see him between the posts again in the orange and black. I hope he gives all the doubters a big surprise this year.

Foster is not an AHL type - he's a seasoned NHL veteran. He's not a top line blue liner, but on a depleted defensive corps, he adds experience, depth, a left handed shot on the power play and will help as a fifth or sixth defenseman.

And, I'll take Boucher over Leighton every day of the week. He's not a star but is still a competent goaltender and if he can stay healthy can contribute in the net. Aside from that, he was a key component on two different teams that went deep into the playofffs - to the NHL Eastern Conference Finals and to the Stanley Cup Finals. Had he been healthy against Chicago, I think they would've had a far better chance to win than Leighton gave them.

I like both moves. I don't expect either to make a significant difference, but I don't see them hurting the team either.

I look into my crystal ball and see a goalie controversy come near playoff time. Glad to see Booooosh back. Hopefully he beats out Leighton for the back up job. If Bryz plays well then neither will see net time hardly. But if Bryz sucks well then we have the usual goalie controversy.

Goes to show you that all this bluster about BRYZ getting it together and we will see a new BRYZ this year is nothing but talk. The Flyers have no confidence that this guy is going to be any different then last year and are stockpiling alternatives...We have three #2 goalies and 8 third line defensemen. Its going to be a very long short season.

"destroy u just like last year" LOL Your captain Parise is gone, your best coach (Larry Robinson) is gone. Super Marty is at the Scooter Store for a mobility consulataion and the rest of the Devs are buying giant screen TVs so they can WATCH the playoffs at home.

Super Marty "dominate?" You mean Super Marty choke.
Brodeur started his career choking for a hat trick by Mark Messier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNToLO6unyI

And Brodeur ended his playoff career choking for 3 goals on a five minute power play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ra6Gf7_EAs

"Super Marty is at the Scooter Store for a mobility consultation ... "

LOL, I love it. How do you come up with these?

  • 0 like this / 0 don't   •   Posted 3:35 PM, 01/13/2013
I'm motivated by the way Super Marty "broke" Bernie's record of 47 wins in a season. Brodeur "won" 48 but he played 4 more games than Parent and he also benefited from ten shoot out wins. He only won 38 in regulation play and OT. Also, Bernie had 12 ties when he set the record in 1973-4. Parent surely would have won at least 6 of those games if he had a shoot out opportinuty which would have given him 53 wins...Parent probably would have won 8 or 9 fiving him 55 or 56 wins...But Super Marty's name is in the record book...What a joke.
  • 0 like this / 0 don't   •   Posted 3:53 PM, 01/13/2013
You want a joke? Read his book "Brodeur Beyond the Crease".

I'll save time and get to the bottom line: Every puck that did not go in the net was due to Marty's superlative skills. Every puck that did go in the net was the result of incredibly poor defensive play by his teammates.

If you want to journey through the land of narcissism this is a must read.

Still laughing about the Scooter Store :-)

  • 0 like this / 0 don't   •   Posted 4:06 PM, 01/13/2013
Brodeur lost over twice as many games as Bernie, and his winning percentage was .660 compared to Parent's .736, even with the benefit of extra points available from shootouts and OT wins.

Do you know the story behind "Uncle daddy?"

Uncle daddy is Super Marty. In probably the most tawdry scandal ever to hit NHL hockey, Marty Brodeur had an affair with his wife's brother's wife. When Marty's wife found out about the affair with her sister-in-law, she left Marty.
After his divorce became final, Brodeur married his former sister-in-law and has had children from that marriage.
So his children from his first marriage don't know if he's their Uncle or their Daddy.

I must have missed that in his book. My fault, because I'm certain he would include that coup in his homage to himself.

    Thanks for sharing that! :-)

They will wind up missing 'Bob' more than anything. He was a stellar 18-3-2, 1.94 in Russia.

Columbus isn't that good, but it wouldn't be at all surprising if Bob turned out to be better than any of these three.

He will certainly be under less fan pressure than he was here. If he's more relaxed, who knows? But he *will* see a lot of rubber though. :-)

Having 2 goalies on the team who give up bad goals wasn't good enough. So now we have 3. Didn't we have enough of this nonsense back in 2010? Wasn't Bryz supposed to be the guy who stopped all of this nonsense? Hey, I've got an idea. Call the Islanders and see if they would like to trade Rick DiPietro! That would give us 4 bad goalies! How about if we trade Bryz, Leighton & Boucher and half their salaries to Vancouver for Luongo? That would be better than what we've got now.

You're sending mixed messages here: "What's with all the negativity?"; "Leighton is beyond pathetic."

I am certain that they will give the jobs to the goalies who impress in the short camp. Then, let's play some games before we start crucifying anyone.

Can't we all just get along?

I am ok with Foster for 20-30 games until Meszaros get healthy. Flyers have a lot of injuries on D, like always. I think Flyers need to add someone like Langkow on that 3rd line instead of Fedotenko. If healthy Langkow can score some points and with Fedotenko on 4th line we have decent depth.
