Sushi Belly Tower to pop up here Saturday

Short notice, yes, but it's just been announced that Sushi Belly Tower will be in Philly for one night only Saturday.

Sushi Belly what?

Michael Stember, a former Olympic middle-distance runner (he competed here in the Penn Relays 20 years ago as a kid from California), became a sashimi freak while training for the 2000 Sydney Games. This passion turned into invitation-only sushi parties, first in his Stanford dorm room and later on rooftops in L.A.

Now, he's traversing the pop-up-restaurant route. Calling it Sushi Belly Tower (with previous outings in New York, D.C., and L.A.), Stember serves 40 to 100 guests in a cocktail-style interactive feast featuring a live band.

Count on up to 20 courses of ultra-premium sashimi, Wagyu beef flown in from Japan, root vegetables, herbs with multiple salts and oils, and an unlimited open bar featuring cocktails from Philly's Art in the Age.

It's $200 a head, and the location - which is in Center City - is a secret.

Info/contact is here.
