Roman happy hour at Alla Spina

Katie Parla of Parla Food will guide attendees through Roman street food and beers.

Food historian, journalist and Rome authority Katie Parla of Parla Food will host a Roman street food and Italian craft beer happy hour at Alla Spina (1410 Mount Vernon St.) on Saturday, Aug. 8 with chef Julie Kline.

Kline will prepare Rome-inspired street food and snack recipes featured in Parla's forthcoming book, "Tasting Rome: Fresh Flavors and Forgotten Recipes from an Ancient City," while Parla, an Italian craft beer expert, will guide attendees through the selection of artisanal Italian beers that she has selected for the event.

It's 4.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and there's no cover (pay as you go).

Five Italian craft beers on draft ($9 to $10):

• Verde from Victory Brewing Company
• Delicado from Tired Hands Brewing Company
Roman Street Food and Snacks:
• Cacio e Pepe Supplì (rice croquettes with pecorino Romana and black pepper)
• Er Maschio (pizza Bianca with mortadella, shishito and Tobasco sauce)
• Bruschetta with salted anchovies and butter
• Polpette di bollito (pulled simmered beef patties, fried)
• Panino con concia e pecorino (ciabatta with fried marinated zucchini and pecorino)
